60% sativa, 40% indica but as science has recently discovered “sativa” and “indica” don’t really mean anything! LOL! Genetically speaking they’re identical.
Pretty much everything is a “hybrid” now and days.
It’s all about the terpenes.
Oh Im so sorry I thought we were still talking about GSC ![]()
Also very interesting study, they still have adverse and differentiating affects though right? Their genetic build is the same but the effects it provides are different?
No harm, no foul! It’s all good buddy!
As I take a lemony, gassy bong hit of homegrown NYD! LOL!
They’re thinking the differing effects are a result of terpene profiles and actual plant growth, like when you actually harvest - early or late.
Traditionally a sativa was known for a “up” high and indica a “heavy, narcotic-type” high.
Its well known that depending on the condition of the trichomes at harvest the effects will be influenced one way or the other - up or heavy. That doesn’t change across strains. You can get the traditional sativa effect by harvesting a indica earlier and vise versa.
What makes the differences in strains is the terpene profile and I suppose as research continues they’ll find that certain terps are more prominent in sativas and other are more prominent in indicas. Doesn’t mean those terps won’t be in the other “kind” of weed, just means they’re more likely to be more dominant in the other. If you can follow that.
Actual scientific research into weed is really just getting started. Marijuana was such a boogey man for the government for years and in an a attempt to hide the truth about how safe weed actually is legitimate research wasn’t allowed. Deep seated racist American policies and the Hearst family are the worst things that ever happened to weed in America. I’m sure the alcohol lobby kicked in their fair share and of course big tobacco was silently on our side but had bigger battles to fight.
Wow! I am too stoned too early in the day!
That’s not even what we were talking about!

Haha no worries! Love the summarization! Thanks for that actually it is quite interesting and it does make sense that harvesting earlier / later produces effects. Who knows? Maybe there is no difference between sativa and indica.
I think the main reason sativa was always associated with an “up” high is because real sativas take forever to mature since it’s a more equatorial strain where indicas grew in cooler mountainous regions.
That explains the differences in leaf structure too. And commercial growers aren’t waiting 14 weeks for flowers to mature!
Plants with abundant sunlight don’t need big fat leaves, skinny is just fine because they’re gonna grow 15ft tall anyway.
Plants further north probably developed fatter leaves to aid in the intake of light since the shorter seasons would limit their vertical growth.
Repeat it enough times and natural selection takes over.
I love diesel strains … currently have a Alaskan diesel nearly ready always wanted to try nyc diesel ![]()
One of the best bags I ever bought from a, um…broker…LOL! was NYD so when we went legal it was one of the first ILGM strains i bought.
She was a little finicky indoors but grew me some certified monsters out in the sun!
I used to much prefer the indicas but more and more I find myself wanting more sativa type highs.
I’ve actually collected a few other diesel strains in the last year and can’t wait to grow them all out.
i also want to have another go at NYD indoors since I’m not such a noob anymore!
It’s still a great smoke though despite my user-caused issues.
I’m nursing my last 2 ozs!
