Yeah like dbrn said, aim for 600 watts in a 4x4 and half that in a 2x2 or 3x3. Id still shoot for 400 watts though.
And for start up cost gas lamps like hps or cmh will definately be cheaper than LED. That comes at a cost down the road though… the bulbs are generally only good for a year, and you need to deal with the excessive heat. Also, in a compact tent, you typically dont have much ceiling height. A gas fixture is way deeper than led… and because they run hotter you cant get them as close to the plant. So that eats up a lot of grow space in a 3x3 tent if you get my drift.

Whoever said to check a qb 260 kit in 3x3, Hellraiser i think? That is excellent choice imo. You can get quality equipment in a 3x3 for similar cost as bare bones 4x4. Having the right stuff will make growing your own a more pleasant experience.

so i reworked my budget and this is what it looks like now
370 for the HLG 260
215 for grow tent 3x3x72 and other grow stuff
150 for seeds
85 for grow kit, soil,pot and other stuff in it

the 215 is for the tent and a VIVOSUN 4 Inch 190 CFM Inline Fan with Speed Controller, 4 Inch Carbon Filter and 8 Feet of Ducting for Grow Tent Ventilation
a timer and a tempeture and humidity gauge and a couple other things

I think the Slim 650 S optic dimmable all 3 spectrum is dimmable and I think it’s 4.5 umol\j oh yes !
I’ll have to look into this but I think we have that light best on performance at Cultilux Led lights. We do have a big similar style like the 650 S. Optic dimmable, but it’s very very expensive to build a led panel affordable for a marketed consumer client base due to the high price for Ultra Violet diodes it would take to make the perfect light panel for Lux and PPFD and turn a profit.
Now it’s a Grow Light Science Grow 300 supposed to be 4.7 umol\j just seen it advertized on Google. They change every month or so now .
Ok so I bought a grow kit off Amazon it came with a light has any one used it before its a 
35 to 50 watts per square foot is what leds require for good yields. I have a 4x7x8 room with 1020 w of lights and a 4.5x4.5x8 room for autos i have 780w in there all true watts. 4 250w qbs in the flower room 3 are hlg 260xls and 2 30wuvs bars and other room had 780 w and 2 uva bars

Yeah it takes a lot of light particularly in the beginning of flowering. I dont flower indoors so my needs are lower than most… even still my fluence fixture puts out enough light to make tomatoes and peppers and veg pot plants to 3 feet or so. If was to flower weed indoors I would aim for around 1000w of input power in a 5x5 space. Thats twice what I need now.
Can somebody build me a light with Cobb, Led, Utra- violet diodes, with a CMH bulb all in one light unit with a dimmer switch of course but with the light timer built into the light to eliminate timers for a more green house used with a solar connector or direct wire or plug in, just an all purposed multi functional light with all light technology combine in one single unit for 4x4 sq ft minimum with 24 hour timer built directly to the control panel of the light will make me rich and change the entire growing game all together again to simplicity for the beginners and seasonal cultivators in limited climates or grow spaces period !
suggest you consider more than one plant. time, effort and expense will be much the same and your harvest will be guaranteed. One seed may die after hatching.
Best to have more than needed and then concentrate on the biggest n healthiest.

i have been reading this for 2 days now , some just don’t understand , some don’t have big bucks , like me , i think some forgot about being new to all this , go to YouTube and type in growlights for 150 , i got a mars hydro ts 1000 , i have it in a shower , that i taped reflect sheets on the walls have 2 plants in it and there doing dam good at 30 days , just don’t give up you will learn , me to ,lol

To ALL people in the US setting up from the beginning, or even upgrading. Depending on where you are, check craigslist in your area. I have seen HLG lights and others , tents, fans. Basically most things you need to get growing for less than retail.
