What are you stocking up on?

Apologies if this is venturing too close to politics, but there are some obvious effects here. We are beginning some economic adjustments that are difficult to anticipate.

After inauguration, I did stock up on peat moss because it comes from Canada. I did not stock up on much else. Today I stopped into my local Home Depot, and since inauguration the price of vermiculite has gone from $11/cf to $28/cf. Perlite has gone from $9/cf to $15/cf. Both of these say ‘made in USA’ so I didn’t stock up. I guess the inputs have gone up in price. Peat moss has not risen here yet. Not surprisingly, I guessed wrong about where the increases would hit first.

I haven’t really thought much about amendments and fertilizers, but perhaps I should. I think what is going on now is that prices are inconsistent. Companies that stocked up before are selling old stock. Companies that had to reorder are raising prices. Sometimes by a substantial amount.

What has significant foreign content that we should buy as much as we can without wasting it? How much will this affect all the nutrient manufacturers?

I haven’t been in a dispensary in a while, but I know a lot of commercial growers are in Canada. Are they raising prices rapidly?

Dispensary’s in Canada will only be effected by taffies of finished product being shipped into the US. That could/ probably will increase the retail price. As far as other grow items, if manufactured, or at least parts or ingredients are shipped in, then yes I believe the end price will increase, but it will be across the board for everyone, home growers and dispensaries.
