Trying to understand salt buildup and watering

I’ve been growing for about 20 years and have tried 4 different brands of nutrients. I found it really doesn’t seem to matter what brand as long as they get fed. I Started with fox farms and eventually used their Dirty Dozen, but have since tried Advanced Nutrients (more than 15 products and way too expensive), a brand named Heavy 16 (8 products) and a brand called Ionic (3 products).

Ionic Grow, Bloom and Pk Booster are very clean products with no sludge or slime. I Just mix the product with cal-mag since growing in coco/perlite mix and using ro (reverse osmosis) water require it. No pH required because whenever I check it is always in desirable range. Couldn’t be easier.

Thank you lots. yeah I for sure dont have any kind of brand loyalty I just like simple. Ill look into the things you recommended it sure sounds like it could be right down my road for sure

There’s instructions for building an automatic watering system and automated system to deal with runoff on coco for cannabis. I don’t see why you couldn’t use the same system for soil. Just dial the system in, fill the reservoir once a week or so and dump your runoff bucket as needed. You can also buy premade systems that do the same thing, like blumat. Personally I’ll just spend thirty minutes or so a day of much needed quiet time with my watering can and shop vac for now.

I hand water and use an engine oil extractor to remove run off. Stuck an 8’ section of vinyl tubing on it instead of the short hoses it comes with. Stick the hose in the pan and suck off the juices. Works pretty well
