barely hit 2k psi in last 20 seconds
buble hash is inside a 50 micron bag which is inside a 35 micron bag, than 2 layers of parchment.

Hey everyone. I just noticed that I some extra cash in the grow fund and I was thinking about buying a press, but Iām not sure where to start. Iāve had enough of the hair straitener and clamp method. itās time to upgrade tooling. I would love some input on what I need to get rolling and how much press I need. Maybe some suggestions on a good product to start looking into. Thanks in advance
Dabpress dot com look for the 4 ton bundle it will get you started off nicely its 400 with free shipping then just buy extra micron bags and high temp non bleached parchment paper in total should be around 450ish
Is there a reason to go up to a 6 or 10 ton model? I was just checking out their site and looks like they may be in my budget. Iām just not sure if I really need it or not. I see some info saying a ton per square inch is ideal, but have no experience to say. also do I really need a pre press?

Thanks for that @Low. A ton per square seemed crazy to me. I just needed to hear it from someone else. So what your telling me is that a 6 ton is probably good for anything that will reasonably fit on a 3x5 platen and I can skip the pre press. just parchment, bags, and some containers for the finished product. Am I missing anything?
Yeah, the 3x5 are bigger than mine. I thinkā¦ When shopping for presses plate size matters more then tonnage.
Start withā¦ well how much do you want to yield in a single press? (Given conditions, temps, humidity etc is dialed in) Expect 20-25% return on a good day. If you are looking for, oh idk a gram. You need a machine that can handle atleast 6 g of flower. I use a 5 ton and I donāt go too much further than 15 grams unless itās kief or sift. I use 2x4 bags.
Iād recommend a decent sized cold plate. Like the size of a piece of paper. This can be any sort of metal. After pressing you lay the parchment on it and it collects easier. The metal you just keep in the freezer.
I have a polished granite slabs and food grade stainless plates I use for cold stones so that part is covered. I think Iām going the 3x5. In all reality I probably donāt need to press grams at a time, but the cost difference is negligible and I have to compensate somehow. thanks for the insight
Sounds good! If you ever feel a reason to go beyond that Iād recommend buying low temp plates and build your own. You can throw together a 20 ton relatively cheap compared the the $3,000-$5,000 units online.
That was the original plan. Not like itās a complicated device. Instead I decided if I can get set up for under $500 then itās probably not worth my time calibrating PID controllers and trying to fight the giant shop press. Bigger isnāt always better.
I have a 12 ton on a hydraulic motor and a 4 ton on a manual pumpā¦i prefer the manual over the hydraulic. Youre wasting money if you go aby higher than 4 for personal use.
Oh and get the larger plates.
