Support ticket Please help my extra little ladies!

I transplanted the ladies into 2 gal fab pots of Fox OF. It’s was a sad day n 1/2 Of shock. I was a worried parent! They seem to be recovering well. I am misting them under domes.
Questions for your expertise:
1 how long should I keep the domes?
2 I didn’t moisten soil before transplant but I have given light water around seedlings. Should I water soil beyond immediate perimeter of plants? I did mist soil to edge of pot.
3 Does this begin week one of veg and should I go for 4-6 weeks?
4 what’s my next step?

Thanks to all for your sage advice!

Yeah, I don’t believe in that. I believe in the flood/drought method. If a plant is in a proper size container with good drainage holes and using a good airy potting soil (like Happy Frog, Light Warrior, Ocean Forest, Promix, etc…) then there is nothing wrong with fully watering that container. Like a sprout in a solo cup, nothing wrong with watering until all the soil in the cup is moist and some drainage occurs. Then you let it dry out and water again fully, dry, repeat for life of plant.

Now a sprout in a 5 gallon pot, completely different story, fully water that and the plant is going to suffer greatly from over watering because it’s going to take weeks to dry out. That’s a case of wrong container for plant size and you would need to water in small amounts until the plant gets much bigger.

I never have over watering problems with the flood/drought method but I see lots of people with over watering problems on forums that use the “give a little every day or 3 times a day” method have overwatering problems or damping off due to keeping the top of the soil too moist.

Over watering occurs when a plant is watered too often, not from giving too much water at one time. With proper pots for plant size and good draining soil, it’s impossible to give too much water at once as the excess drains away.

I do as well, but not with a seedling. A seedling simply isn’t capable of absorbing the water in the pot to produce the drought you refer to.

Your seedlings look like they are packing on some more vegetation now and are healthy. With them having a couple of nodes up now it’s probably time to water lightly in a perimeter around the plant to encourage the roots to reach out for it. No more than a half-cup or a cup of water every few days. When you can stick your finger in the soil again and it is dry, then it will be time to water again.

I would take the domes off within the next few days.

How long you veg is a decision you should make based on how you want to train your plant (if at all) and how much room you have to grow. If you are going to flower them in that tent too, then consider that it isn’t too large and you will have to flip pretty quick or train the plant to not get too wide or too tall. Keep in mind that your plant can grow significantly after you flip them to 12/12 for flowering. The 2 I have in flowering almost doubled in size after I flipped them. If you haven’t learned about topping, FIMing, and supercropping yet and you want to do so, then now is the time, as you will want to begin the training in the next couple of weeks.

The next step is to learn some more and have fun watching your girls grow up. You are on the right track now.

Thanks folks. I appreciate the advice. This thread might become my grow journal. Hope that’s not a problem

I beg to differ, my seedlings have no problem sucking down the water in a solo cup, the first fill takes 4-5 days to dry out, goes quicker after that as the seedling grows. I’ve only been doing it this way for 25+ years and I never have any problems with my grows, We’ll have to agree to disagree on this issue. Perhaps our different grow environments and local humidity makes it fine for me but not for you. I live in the desert while you may live in a horribly humid area and that would make for different experiences.

What are your thoughts on bending and topping? Is it something everybody does? My ladies are not ready yet, but yalls insights are appreciated.
Also since ladies are transplanted and they are almost 2 1/2 weeks since germination are they ready for ‘grow/veg’ Nutrients?

@MrE

No on the nutes. Since you just transplanted into FFOF, it’s full of nutes and you won’t need any for at least 4 weeks, probably even 6 weeks since your plants are so small. Just watch out for any slight yellowing of bottom leaves or plant not looking as green. that will tell you when they need nutes or calmag at least.

I think topping is a must in our height limited grow tents, keeps the plants shorter and increases yields by having more tops near the light, If a plant is not topped, you will basically get a christmas tree shape which is not ideal, you want an upside down christmas tree instead, lots of tops up near the light and not much near the bottom which won’t get much light so you get larfy buds not hardly worth the trimming time. Look up Kyle Kushman supercropping video on youtube for some good ideas on how to prepare your plants for flowering.

I usually top my girls when they have at least 5-6 nodes, this ensures a nice root system is in place and the plant will rebound quickly.

Thanks. I Was planning on using flora-nova grow (veg) and bloom;flower) for nutrients . At 4-6 Weeks from now won’t they be ready for flower or near there? Or is the veg longer than 6 weeks. My tent is 2x2x4.5 so not sure if my tent will accommodate
This is my first grow.

Don’t try to grow monster plants in that small of a tent. If I had that space, training is a must. But I prefer growing monsters as I still get a wonderful haul now under the HLG lights. :+1:

Veg is as long as you want unless you are dealing with autos. Yeah, in your small tent though, not gonna want to veg too long or you’re gonna get monsters as MrPeat said. In that short of a tent I might veg til they get about a foot tall then go 12/12, or even do 12/12 from the beginning as MrPeat does so the plant will go into flowering as soon as possible. Use topping and training while in veg mode and even tying down to keep plants shorter. In that case, you’re not going to need any veg nutes as the FFOF will feed them all the way into flowering. Also take it easy on the bloom ferts at first as the FFOF may still have alot of nutes left in it when you start flowering.

@Hellraiser On a 12/12 schedule with HLG lights they still get past 7 feet tall. You have to stay on top if them either LST via Scrog which for that small of a grow space would be the route I would take.

My way you need at least a 4x4x80” tent as 1 plant can fill that entire space up. Especially with Sativa dominant strains. I do run a straight 12/12 from start to finish with great success now. Took me some time and proper lights to achieve what I do now. :+1:

My GSC Beast was 50% Sativa and 50% Indica and she still went past 6 feet tall.

@MrPeat, yeah SCROG would be best to keep height down (too stoned to mention it before LOL and I’m a SCROG guy), and sticking with shorter indica doms, at least he’s working with OG Kush or was it OJ Kush (some really killer stuff LOL). I"ve grown OG Kush for years and it’s not too bad with the tallness and topping them keeps them pretty short, specially under a screen.

Thanks for the advice. OJ OG whatever! What is LST? Forgive my ignorance. The netting that came with grow tent kit has no hooks to attach to tent frame. I was thinking about using twist ties to attach to tent frame. Any suggestions for attaching?

Just found it. Low stress training!

Evening Gentlemen. Howdy from San Antonio, TX!:
So I’m in FFOF soil and have been Watering with distillED. Wednesday was my first ‘big’ watering since transplanting.
I checked ph of distilled approx 5.8-6
I checked my tap PH and it was approx 6.8-7.
Which should I use and make the adjustment to? Distilled up or tap down?
Ladies seem to be growing slow. Also larger lady has some yellow on tips of new leaf layer.
My humidity is kind of low too. Don’t have much room for a humidifier but maybe I should try one. My humity is 40-44%
Thanks for your insight

I am seeing some yellowing on first real single leaves and newest (3rd layer of new growth). Is this a nute deficiency?
