I’m just sitting here trying to remember but, I’ve never seen a flood to drain setup using hydroton…
Most mediums used in these types of systems retain moisture, that way your root system does not dry out. I could be quite wrong but if it were mine I’d grab-
Pond pump with 1/2” output
1/2” tubing
1/2” tee fittings
1 drip ring per plant
Clamps to hold hose to fittings, plastic works metal works better, I didn’t use any to mine inside reservoir tho it held fine
Idea is to put pond pump inside your reservoir, run 1/2” line to first pot, T to the pot and run 1/2” to next, connect drip rings at top of plant. Set to timer
Your root zone most likely is having establishing issues causing your plant not to take off.
Hope this helps a little maybe even just for a new direction
Actually if you have buckets and air stones, you don’t need rings. Air stones will bubble enough water on the roots to keep them just wet enough. Not to mention how complicated it all gets with all the hoses everywhere.
Don’t get me wrong, rings work IMO, just not necessary.
Well, think the hydrogen stays just wet enough to keep the roots happy till the next watering.
I use to dunk my netpot in my nute/water and then stick them back under my seedling dome and they would be fine for up to 24 hrs. before I had to do it again.
Now I just put them in my tote as soon as they get about 3 sets of leaves and let them percolate.
Definitely don’t mean to knock the ring thing, just as I stated, IMO, not that necessary. I think it’s all a selling point. As I said, I know the ring works and my be an idea for someone at some point.
(Personal disclaimer here: I do not claim it’s the best way.)
Please do your best to help the Op, it’s nice to say what works for you. Tho you need to take in account for what information has been given and what you may notice in the pictures the Op has presented you.
He could change his entire setup to bubble buckets with removable net pots but I don’t think it’s the case in this matter
It’s just an rdwc…
I have six 2" air stones in plant resivor for pumping oxygen to the roots…
The reason for the two 5 gallon bucket resoviors , is just for ease of use…
One is a control bucket so that I don’t have to move plants around or disrupt them when checking ph , ppm , water temps and emptying and refilling with freash nutrients…
The other 5 gallon bucket is for frozen 2 liters if I need them and it’s also where I keep my swamp cooler float to automatically fill the system with ro water…
It’s not an ebb and flow…
I want the water in the plant resivor to stay at a constant water level while pump is running or not so that I never run the risk of drowning my plants…
I really do like the ebb flow setup and overall after looking at other setups I think mine is quite easy to manage. All the plants get the same nutes etc. My only issue is I have the flood table sitting on the reservoir but the plants get so big it seems like I have to lower the table which doesn’t work. I gotta learn to curve the plants which I did slighlt last time or trim to help get shorter plants…learning curve for me.
Doe anyone know of a good setup rdwc or dwc that is affordable and ready to go…no diy. I’m too busy for that! Haha
Check out the plants today. I was worried starting to turn yellow ish but no much nutrients so don’t suspect nute burn. I need to stops staring at the plants for a bit…
Flooding 3-4x a day and seems to be working for now. The humidifier I got last night wasn’t working well so manually spraying. Little plant looking like she wants to stick around
Thanks for all yalls input! I love having this resource!!
I was thinking of using a table to make a sea of green out of clones. In the last picture the plant appears to have been sprayed, its ok if the lights are going off but the water will act like a magnifyer & burn spots on the leaves if the lights are left on. Not staring at them is not possible I think I check them as much as I did when our kids were babies sleeping.
@pillsbury I did spray the area for humidity purpose trying to not get on plants but did this time. Going to get humidifier going again today instead
I also agree they are like babies too.
Thanks again
So adding in all the nutes today?
Do i do recommended dose for all 3 as previously mentioned, in that order?
And should I take into consideration the current pH and ppm in res? I can’t do a full change out water today. Snowed in.
Thanks!
