So What About Rain Water?

I have a rain barrel system I hooked up. Since that and starting compost my plants have stepped up quite a bit. I use dunks or mosquito bits in my rain barrel to keep out the mosquito and larva

Coolest. And so clean looking. We have to be super discreet here as our City foes not allow the collection of rain water. Idk their reasoning behind that law, but is what it is. Just glad that I am out of their way and have the privacy for my one barrel.

What are dunks and mosquito bits???

They’re a bacteria that kills the larvae. Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis aka B.t.i. )

I have a spout on it now. I want to paint it to keep the algae out this sunmer

So they are biologic so ok for the plants too? What does painting have to do with it? Mine is blue. Does that matter? Sorry so many questions. I did put a spout on mine too, but did something wrong and it’s not tight so has to be in a certain position or it’ll leak. Lol! Nothing ever works out the 1st time with me. It’s tough though because the spout is close to the bottom so it’ll drain completely. Idk. It’s holding water today and that’s as much as I can ask.

Jacks 321 is the stuff. My girls love it

Yeah it’s a bacteria. It doesn’t harm the plants just the fungus gnat larvae. I recently (three weeks ago) got 6 chickens. To add with my composting and gardening. (Don’t remember if I said but I bought my first house in October) anyways the BTI are ok for the chickens water as well. As I’m currently building their coop and am gonna collect rain water for them as well.
