i did carrots last year. soil needs to a sandy consistency. or they gro all twisted
Garlic/onion is a bulb, a beet is considered a stem tuber, to get them big you plant a couple inches deep so they don’t have resistance to bulk up. I think I have 450 +/- bulbs planted this season, they go in on Oct harvest July
This year I’m hoping I can make better soil with the compost I got going on also my garden will be bigger than last year
Ima c if I can find some garlic seeds at the nursery I go 2. Some things this year ima buy clones
every year i pick something and learn too grow it. potatoes are this years project
The garden this year will be all that and I also got another raise bed 2 add 2 it. Will fence it in and all so hopefully I don’t have another racoon incident
1 thing ima not growing this year is marigold it really exploded last year 4 me
but a good plant for pest mitagation. my mari’s loved the feed for the gals…
I had it next 2 the tomatoes and basil got say it really exploded and tooked over the corn spot
Order Bulbs, seed takes at least 2 seasons to produce a split bulb. First year they come out like an onion, single bulb typically. You can grow the grocery store kind, but the elephant is more in the Leek family, I have two that grow the size of a 12" softball.
Why do I want split bulbs? Keep one / plant one?
We garden in raised beds. Carrots do well in them. Last season we grew Napoli carrots. They are a little shorter around 6-8" so I don’t have to worry about them growing into the concrete like “soil” we otherwise have. We interplant with early season crops like peas.
Yes, I keep the Biggest to plant for next season and eat the rest.
Nice 2 know please keep dropping knowledge on gardening and I will eat it all up 2 make sure my daughter got a nice garden this year
We used to grow Egyptian Onions. They’re cool because the new sets grow at the top of the stem and for every mature bulb in the ground it’ll give you like 20-30 new ones to set for the next year!
If you leave them alone they kinda self-set as the stem will eventually bend over and the baby onions hit the ground and start growing roots.
I’ve seen them called “walking onions” too because they will spread out naturally. LOL!
Get like 4 old tires and stack them up, plant your potato starts at the bottom of the stack INSIDE the tire ring and just keep filling with dirt and covering the plant as it grows up. Once you get to the top of the tire stack you’re good - just let the potatoes grow, You can leave the finished potatoes in the dirt all winter and just go out, take off a tire and break up the soil a bit, get the potatoes you need and leave the rest where they are.
As long as the soil drains well you should be able to have fresh home-grown potatoes all winter long!
Nice 2 know I don’t think the old lady will let me out tires in the back though.
@Pet_de_Chien nice !
It’s for the garden!! LOL!
Get some non-toxic paint and turn the kids loose on it! Can’t say no to the babies! LOL!
Beats the hell out of digging! LOL!
They don’t have to be Eagle VR-50s, but those wide ass tires would make a great spot! LOL!
We used to have an Camero Iroc Z and that was the ONLY tire they sold that would fit it! LOL!
In fact, when those tires first came out there was only like 4 cars on the market that used them from the factory.
One Ferrari, the 911 RS a,d the Corvette and Iroc from Chevy. Go figure!
Them bastards were $250 a pop in the 80s!!
That Iroc wasn’t cheap to run in retrospect! LOL!
She’s already upset interning my son old bed I to a raise bed. He had 1 of those car beds and now will be in my garden 4 the corns
Obviously not a farm girl! LOL!
I suppose somebodies got to get their nails done though or all those women would be out of a job! LOL!
