You’re welcome @dclem1010
It looks like that mix has a high content of forest products (tree bark). I had a bag of soil that I tried that had a similar composition and the result was similar, nitrogen lock out from the bark and too much water retention. It stunted and yellowed the plants and nutes did not help. something to consider…
Also… possible…
Here is a link to my grow journal. You can compare the growth of the seedlings I planted in a preferable soil with whats happening with your grow.
No comparison, but yeah, I am not a fan of any tree barks either, tend to be more acidic and yeah, retain more water and are slower to evaporate and are more susceptible to be point zero, starting point of mold…
@Niala Your botanical troubleshooting and general knowledge is sophisticated. Are you classically trained?
Bioecology and Applied Ecology studies and over 30 years of garden experiences, 15 in the organic field
@hangthebanksters
Awesome! I was a botany and crop science major at CalPoly. I managed 25 certified organic acres from seed to farmers markets in the 90s while I was going through school. I switched professions and became a commercial electrician as it was more lucrative with a family to support. I am just gardening for a hobby now…
Outta of likes as usual, lol
That explain a lot of your botanical background knowledge that I noticed,
We have a lot in common it seems, lol
Here, I’m a simple member, but in the Bergman’s Lab, I am a volunteer grow mentor
Sorry for blowing up the topic with off topic posts but thats the fee for getting our advice Yeah I think I need to join the lab…
Lol well ya, you will be more then welcome to join, we can even PM our self and don’t clog others topic
A person with your knowledge will be a great addition too, let see what I can do
I’ll be back with this in a few days…
@hangthebanksters did yourbseedlings pull through and do well or shall I get rid of them ?
Referring to the yellow leaves.
Well our situation is a little different. I transplanted the good starts into 30 gal containers that were full of the bark so once I figured out what was going on it was too late. I let them mature as well as they could and harvested early. If you want to try a different medium it wouldnt be a deal breaker to transplant them into better soil at this point. Your choice…
I had the same issue trying to find plain peat that was not “enhanced with nutrients”, and when I did it was ‘twiggy’.
I ran it through a 1/4" mesh sieve to get the logs out, then a fine screen to get out any dust. what was left was workable.
Something just isn’t right ? And they feel brittle. Do they need more water or something ? They don’t look like they are going to make it even though I’ve done everything by the book ! Help ??
@Niala ? Everyone else’s plants at 8-10 days old look Waaaaaaaay better !!
Can’t really see anything through that blurple but what I can see there’s no need to panic. Can you take a pic in white light?
That is out in my room in sunlight
