Thanks for the info J, I’m going to the grow store tomorrow, I’m interested in those little gro-plugs, I don’t know what they are but I’m going to check them tomorrow …too many options lol
looks like youre off to good start (again).
just read through whole thread and the only thing i wondered was, that light you ordered…is it ventable?
i bought a light when i was starting out that had a built-in ballast and no way to connect ventilation, and really regretted it. the ballast made it super hot and all that heat really couldnt escape the enclosure with the small slits they had in sides. i ended up modifying it to make it work. but ultimately trashed it for a much better double-ended fixture.
Hey Jay, yep 6 inch air cooled reflector
My 250 halide in that picture is an all in one unit but I’m pretty much using that as a backup now, it did a great job for a long time in my little closet garden but its time to step up a little…
Eventually I plan on using my two tents to hold mother’s, and put a 4×8 flood table in the room (or maybe set up somewhere in the basement) but for now I just want to get my feet under me, get my mistakes out of the way and kind of get back in to it again
Thanks for the input!
Well the light didn’t make it. I had a bad feeling when I saw that it was coming via USPS to begin with, but they told me to give them till close of business tomorrow and they extended my free Amazon Prime for a second month which is good because over the next two months I’m going to be ordering quite a few things
…and my seeds didn’t make it yet -day 13
Does everybody go through this getting started?
30 years ago I took the fluorescent light out of my laundry room, the air pump out of my fish tank and put some seeds in flower pots in about an hour… ![]()
lol time is the one thing that seems to drag when starting any grow I buy most of my items locally simply because I find waiting for items drives me nuts. Many things I simply build since because my time is free but it does beat the alternative many have items showing up in wrong order for weeks makes things even more frustrating
Well the light made it a day late but the box isn’t beat up and the guy didn’t leave it facing the street for the neighbors to look at so I guess I’m happy. I couldn’t upload the picture, I tried 3 or 4 times, don’t know why not.
Day 19 no seeds ![]()
Restarted my phone and it uploaded
Clones are pricey around here. One guy gets 40 bucks and all he’s got that I’m interested in would be pineapple chunk another guy’s got a boatload varieties and he sells them 25 bucks for a 2 inch clone (I call a two inch plant a seedling) and up, & they get pricey!
6 inche is 50 bucks excetera excetera and for $180 I can get a 36 inch plant ready to flower
I think I’ll wait and acquire mites on my own but I may have to go with a couple of pineapple chunks. I don’t want to spend 40 bucks per plant I need at least two and their only six-inch, hope my seeds make it 21 days Sunday ![]()
I’m wondering if I’d be better off buying one adult plant, taking my clones and going from there until I get the seed thing straightened out one way or another?
I’ll consider that question this weekend, any input on that question what would you do if you were starting up
-thanks
now you have your lights and tents? if so dry run everything for a full 24 hour run time so you get better idea what you need to dial in I go so far as to put pots with soil everything in place set timer check temp humidity several times until she’s dialled in everything you can adjust now is one less thing you have to worry about later also gives better idea as to what you can adjust or not
if you take full plant and clone could be weeks yet before roots and $40 to save 2-3 weeks of grow time can be worth it all depends on your budget and how many you get between seeds power usage and nutrients they almost break even
dry run, a couple of days, at 600 watts to know max heat
track day temp and night, humidity, that’s what the tent does
lights, temperature, humidity
in addition to lights, fans, etc; 1 major component required: patience
im not a big fan of waiting myself either, but im learning it is a requirement for success.
like the other guys said,…instead of sulking about waiting,…use the time to make progress somehow ![]()
Hello guys! Am sorry to pop in like that but i couldnt figure out how to start a new post.
I decided to give it another shot at indoor growing and need your feedback on my setup
Ill add a couple of pics and if you can point out at any flaws or improvements that can be done it would be great
If i should take this subject elsewhere also please do tell))
And the measurments are almost 1m x 1m
400 watts HPS
The girls stayed outdoor for 5 days after germination ( my setup wasnt ready yet) and now its been almost 3 days they are under the lights on a 20/4 hours cycle
I gave them their first feeding today, diluted to avoid all risk of burning at this early stage
These are fem autoflowering white widow and super skunk
It looks great but that 400 would also work great in a 3x3 tent, you’d pick up all the extra height for bigger plants
Is that a LED flood light "equivalent to a 400 watt HPS? If so, what is the actual watts used?
~MacG
You mean i can use the extra height of a tent to produce taller plants?
I can always get the HPS higher and add extra height to my box, but was thinking to keep the plants low by trellising them and have the lights nicely distributed on all of them
No its a 400 watts HPS, its the model they had, and i got it for a good price as it seems that they are no longer in demand, everyone is switching to LEDs, and for purpose of just lighting as growing indoor weed is uncommon from where am from, (but outdoor hash which RED Lebanese is made of thrives ![]()

I was thinking about the advantages of autoflowering vs normal and come to think about it now, other then the absence of the dark period i cant see any, at the contrary the disadvantages in terms of yield are enormous.
I didnt mention the shorter growing time for autos because it seems that for the same space you can have x4 the yield for a same strain if it’s not an auto
Per example the auto SSkunk i got from your site ( actually my friend got them back for me after had them shipped to the US as i didnt know if you shipped to my country, and still dont :P) have an average of 140 grams/square meter yield
But the normal SSkunk have an average of 500 to 700 grams yield for the same space!!
So even if the normal plants take double the time needed for autos ( which personally i think they dont ) you will still end up with at least double the amount for the same time you need to grow 2 crops of autos
No??
I miscounted this is day 15, still no seeds ![]()
Windows taped yesterday, 4 mil black plastic doubled 8 mil use plenty of tape you don’t want a light leak!
Today’s project is assembly of the 4×4 tent, I’ve also got to put in a couple of GFI’s in this room the one I have is by the closet but the tents going on the other end, be ready for things like that
Holy cow! Putting one of these together is like wrestling pigs in grease !
Tomorrow: hanging the light
Edit: couldn’t wait, hung the light
I can’t figure out how to run the plug out of it, my best guess was the back vent like this…
So that’s pretty much it! …all that’s left just to vent it and no rush with that, it’s still damn cold here
thanks for the input and the inspiration, setting up this grow room went surprisingly well!
Edit: had to add this picture, the new light fired right up! 96000 lumens mh! Wow! ![]()
if I can do this any one can! Don’t get discouraged!
