That one girl sure got big, like it didn’t want to stop, which was amazing in itself but really it was in spite of me, not because of me. It really shows how resilient they can be because this grow went sideways half way through. I feel everyone’s plants looked a lot better than mine but hey, they do have great personality
This grow was the first time for me using my new Vivosun 5 x 5 tent with all equipment and the first time using an HLG Scorpion Diablo I picked up at an auction. And only my second time mixing my own soil blend and just when I received the seeds, I realized I’d messed up on some measurements and mixed it too hot. I had to re-mix it and let it cook another week. Even though I re-mixed the soil, I feared it was still too hot. So one could say…lots of mistakes made this grow.
I dropped 5 seeds, all sported tails, all went into final homes, 4 broke surface and one did not. I had a couple early on try to lay over and needed support. Found they were laying over because their tap roots had been trying to grow out of the surface but then curled back down into the soil again.
Everything from there went well until near the third week they all seemed to stall, not sure why. My mind immediately went to my soil being too hot. On day 20, #1 showed its first sign of flower. Fastest I’ve had yet. Again my mind went to the soil. Could stress cause it to start flowering early? Well, I decided to do a mini-flush. Only about 4 gallons of water run through the 5 gallon pots. Flushed #1 on day 25 and it looked to perk up in less than 24 hours. So I did a mini-flush to #s 1 and 3. I left #4 alone to see what would happen.
They all grew pretty much maintenance free.
#1 (flowered at day 20) lived her whole life from the nutes in the soil even after the mini-flush, was stunted with fat, packed buds, not much foliage, very little LST.
#2 (flowered at day 32) needed to be top dressed once late in flower, was stunted and with fat, packed buds, not much foliage, very little LST.
#3 (flowered at day 43) required two top dressings (probably should have been three), spread its branches open with only a 90 degree clip put on it’s main stalk early on, had more foliage than 1 & 2 but went yellow early and lost a bunch.
#4 (flowered at day 47) was top dressed three times, had no LST, had plenty of foliage but not so much that it blocked out a bunch of light, and turned out to be the best plant of all of them. This could be one example of an autoflower doing much better when it is exposed to the least amount of stress as possible, lol.
Post cure & trim weight for the four ladies came in at 252 grams (9.0 ounces) with 4 ounces of that being from #4. I’m not a good candidate for a worthy smell and smoke report due to two facts; my olfactory senses have never been as good as others and my COPD prevents me from giving a fair smoke report. I gave up cigarettes, but I’m sorry, I’ll go to my grave before I give up smoking herb, amigos. But for me, I get a pleasant, piney smell with a hint of fruity something. I enjoy it. It’s a bit rough on my tore up throat but it makes up for it with the powerful head rush. Even after smoking bud all day I still get a wicked head rush from it.
So, that’s it for me folks. Thanks for reading all the way through. A big thanks goes out to ILGM, @dbrn32@Olaf.ILGM and all you top notch growers out there who participated in this Community Event #2 Grow-off. I learned a lot from y’all and had a hell of a great time. Happy growing!!
Final.
Full autopilot grow. About 8 zips 2 plants. Bad start but recovered.
Plants stretched out with sativa traits. Did not look like a kush at all.
Flowers were nice and tight. Wide spacing. Very flavorfull and potent.
Absolutely no testing or numbers kept. Top dressed living soil. Just watered.
I still believe the genetics of these beans are unstable. Too many variations for my liking.
My grow started off with trying out new nutrients that failed to launch. Switched to MegaCrop 1Part around week 4. Bottom photo is growth spurt 1 and other photo is after growth spurt 3. I lost 1 of 3 not catching rootbound growth and it choked. The other two were saved by a major flush yielding 6.53 oz and 7.5 oz each. These plants were a bit unruly with CO2 but made it to the finish albeit with differing body effects. Medically I expect a lot from my grows and I learned that I prefer more stabilized grows using well sorted Autoflowers. Remaining Purple Kush seeds will go into larger pot size, good nutes from the start, and better practices by the grower(me). Taking part in a group grow really accelerated my learning curve and I will always be thankful for the opportunity to learn.
I don’t feel quite as behind on this one but the time has definitely come. Please extend a round of applause for all of our partiand followers !
Putting up 2 polls with voting open to everyone. Any tie breakers will be put to 24 hour vote off. In the first, please select the best plants/finished product. In the second, lets show some love for whichever member kept you the most engaged or entertained over the course of their journey. One winner per poll so anyone winning rhe first will not be eligible in the second. Happy voting!
