Psilocybin Adventures

Have to go away to upstate New York for work this weekend Friday to Sunday got to give the wife a crash course in mushroom growing and how to take care of my plants nearing the end on my gold leafs be a shame if I lost em now. I have full faith in her though just have to write a list out I guess.

@shady424 my spores have yet to arrive. I wonder what is taking them so long? Didn’t we both get them from PS? Also, my spawn bags from Midwest had purple and green in different bags right off. I think they were contaminated maybe since that seems to be a problem with their bags.

I actually, after MONTHS of isolation due to the virus, got to get out yesterday and got some brown rice flour and perlite.

The one McKennaii is doing well. It has been shaken up twice and keeps coming back. 4 weeks today from inoculation. The other three bags (McKennaii and 2 Golden Teacher) have done nothing. It is week #4. Should I just toss them at this point or give them another week?

I know this may be extravagant venture, but I have GOT to make this work, I ordered a Mycobrooder from Gorilla Kits yesterday. They upgraded the one that has been out of stock and I got an email that this was available. So here is my plan, the new 5x5 Gorilla tent is in but not put up. Before I put my new seedlings in it, I plan to Lysol the heck out of the inside, use the glove box, and get them in the Mycobrooder. I am thinking the new tent will be about as clean a place as I can manage here (up until a few days ago it was sand storms near daily but weather is calming down). I can’t think of any other way to innoculate any better here. Then the old 3x4 Covert tent that will redone today as the hanging cannabis is time to be trimmed, will keep the inline fan/exhaust in there and set up the mushroom grow in that tent.

I’m a little skeptical about Midwest too. Only maybe 3 of the 12 BRF jars I got from them didn’t suffer from contamination.

I have a case of their jars, but it is too old already, and will use the jars but ordered inoculation jar lids from Gorilla Kit. I can see now that I pretty much wasted every dollar on the Midwest Monster Monsoon kit. ARGH!!! (Hope no one is laughing thinking I wasted money on the Mycobrooder or jar lids. Lol)

Judgement free zone here. I accomplished the same thing but I went the mini-greenhouse route. You’ll probably have better control of the environment with the mycobrooder.

I originally intended the little greenhouse to be a fruiting chamber but then realized that I can make a nice spawn tent out of it. I have a 4x4 tent I am thinking about putting up as a fruiting chamber. I have everything but a humidity solution for it. I’m thinking about building a humidifier out of those pond foggers. I just haven’t gotten to it yet.

I scraped metal jar lids due to issues with condensation on the lids and rusty water dropping in my spawn. The lids are a good investment. I bought plain lids and installed air ports and injection ports from Amazon and built them. So far so good.

Taking 2 grain bags to bulk this weekend. I’ll give millet a go this next time. Boiling 2 1/2 cups of millet for 30 minutes to hydrate it. Put in 1 tablespoon gypsum to prevent caking/sticking. I’ll pressure cook it tomorrow and seal up the bag with millet and inoculate it.

Millet is supposed to colonize faster than bigger grains. We’ll see how it goes. My popcorn jars have been colonizing for 2 weeks now and still have weeks to go. The grain bags will have colonized for a month when I move them to bulk this weekend.

The bags I get millet N rye berry

I just checked the tracking number and all it said was arriving late. I ordered it 11/20. Here is an interesting note on shipping: I needed to FedEx something to my son on Friday. I asked how much and the lady started with the most expensive: $111 overnight, $100 for Monday, and so forth. So I said, what is the cheapest? $11.73. Works for me. Do you know he got that literally the next day. On a Saturday. Imagine paying $111 for something you could do for $11. :face_with_monocle:

@MidwestGuy I thought I had bought millet yesterday at Costco. Got home and accidentally grabbed a bag of flax seed meal that was next to the millet on the shelf but a bag had been put in the millet bin. Geesh, I don’t need flaxseed meal but it is a 110 mile one way trip for grocery shopping. Guess I will try and amp up our fiber. But I was interested in the millet thing.

What kind of lighting are you guys / gals providing to your fruiting chambers / cakes / whatever? When I did this back in the day it was a covert thing and the only light I could provide safely was with a coleman lantern inside a larger rubbermaid tote.

Would I be safe to throw the fruiting chamber in the corner of my 4x4 weed tent. It’s a big ass light but it’s like 5 ft from ground level and there will be a translucent cover of some sort over the chamber. What schedule are you running whatever light your using.

I’m using one of those spider arm led it’s got four arms cheap didn’t cost much blue and red light

Yeah I’m aware you don’t need much light. More concerned about too much. If I can I’d like to keep all my drug growing stuff in one place. Keeps the wife happier

So when I flushed my cake it kind of fell apart that was like a week ago so I decided to flip over the broken pieces and that’s where the mycellium was nice and chunky so when I checked tonight I have tons of pins coming up I hope they all grow to maturity that would b nice so happy that it’s at bouncing back even after breaking up a little

I hear ya my wife says I spend more time with my plants and projects than her and she isn’t wrong between work and everything here it’s a lot. She liked the fruits of the labor though for the first time already can’t wait for the next.

Amen, if my wife didn’t smoke all the time she would prob kill me for the time I spend in that little tent. She doesn’t know about the shrooms yet. Lol. We’ll call that a surprise rather than an omission of truth :yum:
