Never used anything like that. Distilled water and turbinado sugar (Raw Sugar). Thats it. What are the ingredients in that there bag?

Here’s a screenshot of the product and ingredients, trying to learn this stuff as well, instructions don’t say anything about stuff settling out so don’t know on that.

That black bag has dextrose, malt extract, and peptides.

Dextrose is the only useful element the ingredients.

Malt extract is used for agar, not LC.

Straight sugar or Karo syrup is all that needed.

I expect the sentiment you asked about is the malt extract, which is not needed in any way.

Dextrose is easy as hell to make, just boil a potato, use the resulting water. Mash and eat potato.

I should add that the malt extract may turn your LC water into a gel.

As I learn more on using agar plates , I’ll update it here. Been going thru shroomery and gathering info there as I assume no one here knows much about it, there is definitely a ton of information to go thru there. I’m hoping I see something worth while in my plates in another week or so, if not I may just cut something out and transfer it for practice anyway. Stay lit y’all :sign_of_the_horns::clinking_beer_mugs:

I’ll take up Midwest recipe for an LC broth. When I do that. I can just take clean mycelium off an agar plate drop it in the broth and it will multiply correct?

I’m going to go for it anyway it’s got great reviews and people are saying not turning their liquid culture into gel.

Cut the agar into pieces and use them. The mycelium will also have penetrated the agar and is useful.

I’ll send a couple pics of what I have that appear to be clean. See if you think so to before I completely compromise everything.

So @MidwestGuy I’ve got a insta pot I think it’s the same as what you have, I can fit 4, 1/2 pint wide mouth jars in at a time , does that sound right? I don’t remember how many you were doing at a time, I’m thinking keep it simple as possible and start with pf tek, basically make a brf cake and fruit it.won’t get a big yield but if I run 4 or 8 should still be plenty I think?

Yes. These are 1/2 pint jars in a standard Insta-Pot.

Cool thanks :sign_of_the_horns::clinking_beer_mugs: and yup a tight fit for sure

Lights on. Took the lid off fanning gently for 15seconds. Misted the lid a back on she goes. Slight crack to the lid a base.

I think I put a small piece of grain in this. Looks good?

This I believe has some contamination so wanting to transfer. I think you can see the contamination underneath

This I know has contamination but hope to clean it up.

Everything that was put to agar has been in a tent at 75*f. No humidity running. I threw prolly 12 cups of agar out. An then transferred these to the fridge lid down to prevent condensation. Some I threw out were spore swabs. Spore drops. Lc drops. Lc swabs. I’m throwing everything at it just to hope to try and find a solution for all my failure. Just trying to be successful.

Wish I had more input for ya, hopefully I’ll start nailing sh!t down here soon myself. And getting decent pics of agar is a bit of a pain. I’m not seeing any of the mycelium like roots coming out along the outer diameter of the growth so not sure if that’s ok or not, I don’t really see any on any of my stuff either

Making dishes and transfers are fun and great way to keep genetics around :+1:t2::green_heart::sign_of_the_horns:t2:

Starting with spores its not uncommon to have the growth be whispy and fluffy. Not all mycelium is rhizomorphic. When working with cloned mycelium you would get alot stronger results. Put some in some grain and see what it does. If it gets ugly then you know. You could do an agar to agar transfer then one slice into the grain. Label everything and see what happens. Toss the bad samples and keep the good.

I hope I get my genetics a little stronger after I do another thing I’m gonna make some more agar cups this weekend. I think out of 24 I was able to save three.
