Please help me with my Gorilla Glue

A customer has a question and I hope we can get some opinions on it, thanks

I’m starting an indoor 4x4 tent grow.
4x4x8 tent
I have 2 Sunblaze 48’s with 40,000 lumens each. (I changed all of the bulbs with better T5 lights but i don’t remember the details on them)
4 clones (gorilla glue)
4 5 gallon pots
Fresh high grade soil
2 fans and exhaust
My question is, How many lumens do i need? Some say the more the better, others say to only use what you need. I don’t really know. Can you help me with this question?

I’ll call in a lighting pro and while you’re at it please fill out the support ticket and be as complete as possible. Please tell us WHAT soil, HOW you ph your nutes, WHAT nutrients, anything we can use to help you.

@dbrn32 be right back.

By looks, those are 8 bulb t5 fixtures? You have to be covered from just about wall to wall with light fixtures, which is kind of a pain. Anyways, fluorescent bulbs of any kind are more difficult to produce with due to their lack of intensity. Outside of changing to a different type of lighting, you’re probably doing about as well as you can if you have two of them. If you plan on staying with the t5’s, just make sure to use warm white bulbs for flowering (2700k) and run them as close as you can to the plants.

Thanks @ILGM.Zoe for passing us the puck :grinning:

You have to begin to worry about lumens when their total in square feet give you more than 100 000 lux, the peak of the sun…

The total amount from the sun hitting the ground is around 1120 W/m2.

Direct sunlight has a luminous efficacy of about 93 lumens per watt of radiant flux. This is higher than the efficacy (of source) of most artificial lighting (including fluorescent), which means using sunlight for illumination heats up a room less than using most forms of artificial lighting.

Multiplying the figure of 1050 watts per square metre by 93 lumens per watt indicates that bright sunlight provides an illuminance of approximately 98 000 lux (lumens per square meter)

You have 80 000 lumens/16 square feet and by doing some calculation with the help of this site :

you have around 53 800 lux total for your growing space. However, a fluorescent do not have the PPFD/PAR (intensity) needed to go deep in the canopy and will lose half of it’s intensity at each foot or so if not more.

So, to resume, like @dbrn32 mentioned you’ll have to keep your t5 very close to the canopy, around 6 inch away, due to the lack of intensity of fluorescent, and you should be good without fear of light burn, and if you can do a SCRoG setting, it will be best… And have tubes between 2700-3500K warmth for flowering stage…

(Lumen are usualy taken at 1 foot distance)

P.s. @peachfuzz have great experience with fluorescent too, maybe he will add his 2 cents too :grinning:

I love my t5ho fixtures , but I only use them for vegging not flowering , although I’m sure I could if I scrogged them…

If the plants are allowed to get over 3ft tall you will start to notice the bottoms of the plants dying off due to lack of light…
