Northern Lights #5 BX Grow Off

I put five NL5BX seeds in a paper towel. Will move them to solo cups when they have tails.

My setup:

8’ X 8’ room, plants occupy 6’ X 8’
~2200 watts home built LED w/photo red, far red & UV
Roots Organic Original soil (10 gallon fabric)
Roots Organic dry nutrient line
Individual SCROG frames for each female plant

The Northern Lights will move to a smaller tent when they emerge from the soil. I will bring them back to the main room after the current grow is chopped.

2 days after being put in their Solo cups, 3 of the seedlings popped out of the Pro-Mix.
At 6 am today, there was only 2 out, with one still wearing her helmet…:military_helmet:
So, being myself, I just tore it out by squeezing it between my fingernails :smiling_imp:

The one at the top is the slowpoke…

Here they are now with the Golden Pineapple trying to take over the world :earth_americas:

6 seeds started in total, 4 seeds dropped in rapid rooter cubes on the 1st and 2 more in paper towels earlier today. One of them sprouted from the cube another looks like it’s close.

They’re in with my autos that are a couple weeks in flower, they’re on 18/6 light schedule and temps are 75-80 RH is 45-55%

4 girls dropped on 12-30 in moist paper towels in zip- lock baggies and set ontop of my led light for germination…

I had 1/4 inch tails at around 16 hours and placed into a little modified tray with some jiffy seed starter stuff in a solo cup with a lil water at the bottom and a modified clear solo cup for a humidity dome and here is where they are at , at the moment…

Vegg area is running at 73 degrees and 32% humidity…
9x12 flower room with 3 different tables, so not sure where they will end up yet…
But probably under 2 hlg 350 diablo lights and ofcourse they will be scrogged… :+1:
Can’t wait to see how this all goes…

Germination and vegg lighting will be a 200 watt hlg r spec on a candle stick lighting schedule (ie) 12 on 5 off 2 on 5 off and repeat for maximum growth in a short period of time and it will also alow me to sex them in the shortest amount of time possible without allowing them to flower…
I would only recommend this lighting schedule for people that have their feeding dialed in because the plants will be kinda on overdrive and deficiencies in a hurry…
As soon as i feel that they are strong enough I’ll rip them out of the starter soil and rinse them off and they will be supported by collers and will be a water only grow from there on out…
Much Love to all my fellow cultivators and may we all have some delicious fat buds in our future… :green_heart:  :deciduous_tree:
:v: :sunglasses:

I dropped them in water/h202 on new years day. Transferred to paper towel/bag on 01/02. Forgot about them until last night when i put them in the solo cups. Had a large tap root going (pic 1). Coco was buffered with advanced nutes cultivator series at half strength (650 ppm 500 scale) all of them are popping up through the coco roughly 70/30 coco perlite.

Got carried away tonight watching the game :football: and forgot to do my wkly post.

Not doing as good as I’d of thought. The tea I amended my soil with previously in order to recharge it may not have been a great idea actually. :man_shrugging: My seedlings are stressed for sure.

They started strong but each has needed some assistance since then. Like helmets or some root misdirection, (I know that may be with my placement of cracked seeds) but I think by the overall look, looks like a stressed lot,
can tea make a soil ‘too hot’ for seedlings? :seedling:

Sunday update: 5 of 10 up. I planted them a tad deeper than usual after all the early feedback from others. Solo cups and sunshine mix. I expect them all to be up by morning. I also had 1 helmet head so far. Keeping it wet with a few drops of water. I don’t usually intervene until a couple days go by. Drops and patience usually work without the dome.

Edit: ran out of solo cups. Went with some old 4” pots.

Grower comments: plants gettin it rough with enviro issues due to heating mat death. Humidity tanked 30’s then overwatered with compensation and stalled. Tray had sat in stagnant water a few days. Discovered and righted with a transplant to 1/2 gal pots 01/07. Here they are at lights on.

Howdy all! I dropped 3 seeds on the first and all were popped when I got home from work the next day. I put them in a paper towel/baggie till Friday after work, then into solo cups with seed starting soil. They will get transplanted into 5 gallon cloth pots with Root’s organic soil and fed Jack’s 321 from start till end. I have a 4x5 room with a HLG 600r , a pair of ACI 6” oscillating fans ( which I am very pleased with), an ACI 6” exhaust fan, and their T3? humidifier, and a oil radiator heater. All 3 are looking good, approximately 4” tall. Will send pictures when I get Wi-Fi back. Will be using rainbird drip irrigation system fed from my 8 gallon rez. Good luck to all!

Found out what was the problem. My normal grow room is not insulated correctly so at night room was dropping to 38F, so I moved everything to my bedroom. Got 1NL sprouted and growing and 1 Pink Runtz auto. Waiting still on the others

number of seeds dropped- 6 dropped with 4 above ground.

Number of female plants/unknown

Number of days from sprout-7

Number of days from 12/12-n/a

Lights on temp/rh- 80/65%

Watering/feeding frequency- Auto tray bottom wicking

Grower comments-4 out of 6 above ground and dropped a back up on 1/10/25. 1/2 gallon nursery pots with 1/2-3/4” of hydroton. Bottom feed auto tray seems to be working well and not overly wetting the coco loco medium. Tap water adjusted to a PH of 6.3 in the res and drifts to 6.8 through the week.

Grow Off Update: Sunday January 12, 2025 6 AM

number of seeds dropped - 5 on January 5 (one week ago)
Number of female plants - Too Early
Number of days from sprout - 4
Number of days from 12/12 - N/A
Lights on temp/rh - ~90 F/60% inside dome
Watering/feeding frequency - Drench to drought - first water since sprouting was on day 3

Grower comments:
All five that I dropped cracked and emerged from the soil without helmet heads.
It was four days from dropping seeds to sprouting from soil.
For watering, I treat seedlings much like I treat vegging plants. I water heavily when dry. I didn’t get the plant labels in place. Will get that done later today.

I started them at a ppfd of ~300 for one day, then ~500 for one day and now at ~700. As soon as they start producing nodes, I will start hardening them to the lower rH in preparation for removing the dome in a few days or so.

Excuse the mess, I use this tent for storage. Only using it now because the main grow room is busy making flowers.

Dropped 4 / 4 sprouted,
7 days up.

Lights on avg 79° F/ 61% RH.

Autopot trays hand filled to keep coco moist. Also top watered by hand 1X with diluted kelp tea.

Lights reduced today to 20/4. Still at 350 ppfd, 18" above.

Got one runt, it will probably be the biggest before it’s over.

I’m hoping all 4 will be big enough this week to collect a sample for gender testing.
