That water ring I would only use until my roots start to touch the top of the water on the bucket, after that you are keeping the top and pebbles too moist. The netpod after roots reach the top of the water should only use the air stone to pop the water up to the roots on the bottom of the net pod. I currently am not doing dwc or rdwc. I put my bulkhead couplers too low on my buckets so they leak otherwise I would show you. But in my journal I have some pics of my dec setup.

Yes when I first started I had the halo spraying to much turned it down cause it was drowning them. Now it is almost all the way off very little coming out and now they are almost done. I will definitely save what you wrote and put so next round will be easier. I like the setup just a learning process been a soil person forever.
Completely understand, I use the pebbles with a 1 inch layer of Promix start my seed directly in the Promix and top water only until the roots touch the top of the water in the bucket then it’s all on the roots to take in what they need. Am currently not doing dwc or rdwc because I put my bulkhead couplers too low on my buckets. Need to get a new set of totes. I also will be getting a water chiller to keep temps perfect. Your plant looks great for your first time. Keep on with it you will be a pro in no time.
Lucky for me I had the peeps on here to help guide me thru startup. I drowned the first two and didn’t use rock wool. But now that i changed that. Boom two beautiful girls are almost done and ready to start next two. The clean up with all the roots should be fun but well worth it. But will definitely make adjustments to the halo ring next go. Definitely happy with results and appreciate all the knowledge and help. 
I’ve found a small pair of wire cutters or a box knife work great cutting roots around the basket.
Yes definitely appreciate that info cause there is a mass of roots in there. Half the bucket or more is roots it’s crazy but well worth it. Was thinking what would be easiest way to clean all the roots after
