New RDWC system setup

@Chrisr36 Autos are really easy to grow Chris with all.autos ive ever grown , there was no need to switch light cycles my friends ive read more than once that autos ca. Stay on a 18/6 schedule from start to finish no need for 12/12 hence the name autos, you couldve also done a 20/4 schedule with autos . I like indica autos myself , sativa not so much as they get real strtchy but that the genetic make up of sativas, where as indicas tend to be more bushy and not so stretchy. Idk if it helps but this has ben my experience

@Chrisr36 hey Chris hows things going brother, wondering how your system is running. I checked out the vid you told me about. Very insightful to say the least. Havent heard from Happy; I hope he’s doing okay. So youre running 2 totes and a res right? 27gal totes or smaller. See im wondering if I can only fit 1 27gal tote in my 3x3 and 1 for the res how many gals do i need for system to maintain proper water levels…anyone ? Lol

Early veg it will be about 75% full. So (27x2)x.75. Use any pipe water volume as a small buffer. Flower and late veg you will be at about 50% when you lower water level.

Getca flow meter or measure how much water you add and use a paint marker and increment the res. This way you can see that they drank 2 gallons or whatever your increment is so you know how much top up solution to add.

Hey @robert365 , yah man the system is running really good. Haven’t any issues since I got it operational. My plants on the other hand are up to no good, but it’s fine, just letting them run there course.

Yeah man running 2 totes, there both 20Gal. And a 20 Gal Rez.
My system is setup inside a 4x4 Tent, both totes inside, and have the Pvc routed out a hole in the back where my rez + chiller + filter are setup.

My system uses 26 Gals for ideal water height

Hey there everyone! Back at it with another grow. Going to attempt to do things differently, more cautiously perhaps.
So here’s a hopefully preventative question.
I’ve got 2 girls sitting in the system right now. Still very small, there roots aren’t even suspended into the water yet.
Yesterday was normal, water ph was 5.7 steady for several days. Today when I checked I saw the ph had spiked to 6.4 and the water was really cloudy looking, and might even be a strange smell? Not sure on that one,
So ya there’s no nutrients at all in the system, basically just trying to do a test run for when I do add some nutes.
Only thing I can think of that I did was turned the air pump down just a little bit. Not sure if that matters. Heres some photo’s, not sure how cloudy the water looks from picture.
Gonna tag some peeps as i’m planning to reopen this thread for this new grow!

I had never read this thread. Good stuff. I’m a soil grower and it is answering a lot of the questions I had about hydro. I’m going to do my next grow in coco to get used to the plant responsiveness. I may do hydro for the following grow. It’s my understanding that the growth rate improvement is noticeable.

Glad to see you back in the game @Chrisr36! Not a hydro guy either so unsure what is going on with your water. Weird that 1 extra day made just water go from clear to cloudy. Did you keep the lid on the res? Bacteria and other living things like light, maybe something landed in there and started to grow?

Hey man, welcome welcome. We’ve covered a good bit of hydro stuff in here. Lots of knowledge flowing thru here.
And hell ya, hydro is quick and can get some crazy growth

Hey spud! Been a little bit but hell yah I’m back!
And I agree, I’ve never seen that happen. What’s weird to me is there isn’t even nutrients in there yet.
And as for the rez I do keep the lid open sometimes and sometimes closed. I get much cooler water temps with it open every now and then for some reason.
But hell, suppose we’ll see in a day or two for a water change :raised_hands:

I’m not a hydro guy either. You may get some answers from @robert365 or @Retiredoldguy . They are great hydro guys. Good luck brother. Set to watch and learn.

@Chrisr36 brother i dont ever have my res lid off unless im feeding, or cleaning etc. Are you using a chiller to cool your water?

Hey bro, I haven’t added any hydroguard or anything yet since I haven’t added any nutes. But I think ima put some in.
And for the rez, I started leaving the lid up on it because when it’s closed and I go check it, (hard to explain) but it feels muggy inside the res. And yes I’ve got a chiller! I keep it set to 68

@Chrisr36 its feels muggy because its really a closed system until you pull the lid thats normal mine does the same bro. I keep hydrogaurd up on mine just to system in check bro and look at my thread i put pictures of my res and roots water stays clear as a bell

Sup @Chrisr36 happened to check my email. Been incognito a bit. If i read right, basically cloudy water with weird smell. Could be two things -

Residual Pysan20, or water sitting will grow stuff, is it circulating or no? My fresh water trash can gets cloudy, but i drain the dehumidifier to it also. And its stagnant. Doesnt seem to hurt anything if its the same from my expirence
