My 2025 Outdoor Autos Grow

Nothing green left in a month… bag of alfalfa horse pellets are cheap source. I soak for teas then toss to pile and tumblers. Could run a small plot of buckwheat and cover with netting. Toss and grow 2 wks. Then mow down and repeat. It would be beneficial to the soil/life as well

hmmm… good idea. I wonder how much water it would take. And there is no mowing here. We have too many rocks LOL. We (Flint) has to weed-eat the entire property. When we try to level off a spot in the yard, the first rain washes it all away… or the turkeys scratch at it and uncover the rocks below. Our yard literally grows rocks LOL Wanting to rent goats but couldn’t this year cuz I’m unemployed.

From what I’ve read for your area, you run buckwheat 3x @ 2 wk cycles to establish a soil matrix and then plant the deeply rooted, sand grass mix (txtd link) with natural to low water requirements.

Very cool! We do have a small amount of Common vetch. I try to save it the best I can because it’s really pretty but it dies off as soon as the summer hits. We have very little crimson or common clover but i did plant some invasive clover and it is showing up in more an more places (not anything like my mint and spearmint). I have never seen any buckwheat. We have a lot of wild mustard they use in between the rows at the vineyards but it isn’t invasive enough. I will see if our local orchard store has it and try it. I bought a bunch of phaselia to try but I now it gets really, really tall so if it dies off, it’s just a fire hazard.

I order lots from that company, for deer plots and bird plots, cover crops ect.

I also asked Z’s wife if she could send us any of his seeds so we can try and keep his passion alive. I know it will be hard on her to go through his grow stuff but she said she would soon. She was very happy to hear that we all wanted to do it in his honor. So, here’s to you @Lacewing ! Happy 420 everyone!!! I’ll be dropping them at 4:20 West Coast time!

Party on all of my friends! You all mean so much to me! I will never take you guys/gals for granted!

Geeze! What is going on with this weather?? Not that I’m complaining. Don’t get me wrong! I really don’t want the 105+ temps but these night time temps seem really low for this time of the year…

Well… I had nice tails, put them in my peat pods and now the waiting game. I kinda figured they would have popped above ground by now… stand by

I tried these for the first time and went 0-6 :grimacing: I’ve always used root riot or rapid rooters and Im not sure what I did wrong with the peat. I soaked 3 in r/o and 3 in a mild solution of around 150ppm. I planted once tails had sprouted and placed them in domed flats on a seed mat. I bought a bag of 50 so I’d like them to work :joy:
Any suggestions @Caligurl :hugs:

After a little further reading this morning, I think I know what happened. Gotta wring them out :person_facepalming:

Exactly! I wring them out until I can’t squeeze any more water out. Slice them down the side and open like a book. Put the tailed seed in ther and close them back up. Then I fill a solo cup with my soil and put the puck in. The soil in the solo cup is layered (from bottom up) regular soil, 50/50 soil and seedling mix, then (on top) just seedling mix.

I hydrate them. Then I squeeze out about 1/4 of peat and make it less compacted and easier for roots to push down.

My problem with peat pots is the tail wouldnt grow through it. I guess like you say. Its too compacted. Will have to try that. Thanks :call_me_hand:

That’s what happens when I cut down the side and open it up. It kinda ‘fluffs’ it up then when I close it backup, I do it very lightly

When I transfer the seedling to a bigger pot, I remove the wrapping on the starter puck. I don’t think you really need to though. It’s like the nursery bags… the roots will grow through it.

Appreciate all the input Growmies. On top of not wringing them out, I didnt fluff them either. And I planted autos… 3 strikes!

I did autos this time and have done them that way before. I think when you remove the outer wrapping before transplant, it’s like they never got transplanted.

@Caligurl Meant to inquire yesterday, how did the job search turn out?

I got a job offer from one of the two companies! I’m glad I didn’t get the other one. The interviews were like night and day! The one I got, we had a LOT of fun on the interview… the other one was horrible! As I was sitting in the reception area, at least a dozen people were leaving for the day. They all looked worn out and drug down and not a single person said goodbye/goodnight to the poor receptionist. They weren’t even talking amongst themselves… looked like robots. The place was dead quiet… I kept thinking it was really odd and uncomfortable, and after the interview, I knew what I felt was really bad and felt so sorry for the receptionist. So I will find out more details this morning!
