Midwest's 2022 ILGM Gorilla Glue Adventure

It’s been 9 days and the seed hasn’t popped yet. I’ll give it a few more days before I start a new seed.

not a good sign if taking this long to come up for air…

Dang, hope the green gods blow some life in that baby. I wish I had the room to drop a glue sniffer and run at the same time as you!

Still no seedling, so I dug around in the soil looking for it. She’s not popping, so I dropped another seed this morning.

Three days for sprout this time. We have a plant! An itty bitty seedling from an itty bitty seed. lol. She’s only about a third of the size of a piece of perlite.

I know you will, some of us (me) struggle with stml and will even forget this teeny little lady ever existed lol. Before and after pics are shocking to the senses lol.

She a little leggy for my taste so I moved the light down. It should arrest the leggyness. It’s been six hours and there are no heat problems since moving the light down, so the light is good at 14 inches. The light is an HLG 260 (non-XL,) but a single 135 panel would get the same job done with less wattage at 14". I’m just too lazy to wire up for a single panel.

Dead tips on the first set of leaves. Not going to worry about it so long as the rest of the tips are okay and new growth is healthy. Happy Frog, no nutes.

The second node is pushing up. Time for a transplant in 5 to 7 days.

Doing great. The nodes are really tight since she has a lot of light, but it’s okay. I will bury the first couple of nodes when I transplant and will encourage her to stretch out with less light when I can manage it better as she grows. It will only take a week to 10-days to get her to stretch out when it is time. It will be time for a transplant by the end of the coming week. She’ll then go in a 10" pot for 2 weeks, then to a 10-gal fabric bag. She’ll get buried up to her neck with each transplant. I do this to minimize main stalk height.

Wow – as usual I’m learning so much from you. Thanks for the invite to follow.

Please explain burying the nodes? Do you cut the growth from the plant to transplant?

The nodes are the points where the leaves come out from the main stalk. The first couple of nodes become worthless as a plant matures so I bury them when I transplant. These include the nodes where the little round cotyledon leaves appear and the first set of single-fingered serrated leaves. I bury these 2 nodes in the dirt on the first transplant. How many I bury on the second transplant depends on how the plant looks and whether or not I believe that those branches will be productive. Roots will emerge from those nodes buried under the soil, so it also helps root structure.

I snip off whatever is growing from the nodes before I bury them.
