Sorry i should have been more clear.
Im very Familiar with hydrogaurd.
I should have said there is 2 basic groups of ā€œbenesā€.

  1. Nutrient cycling microbes that eat hydrocarbons and poop nutrients.
  2. Pesticidal microbes that protect the plants in various ways.
Pesticidal microbes like whats in hydrogaurd do not need hydrocarbons to provide benefits.
Nutrient cycling microbes do require hydrocarbons to offer a net gain benefit.

I use bacillus amyloliquefaciens in a couple of of different forms in soil and hydroponics.
I use both pesticidal and nutrient cycling in soil.

I try to be detailed but I can’t articulate very well after my nightly brownie and hot chocolate
Both heavily infused of course
But this is correct and I should have been more clear on what I was trying to say.

Ok so let me see if I got this straight. Use Hydroguard but other microbials are unnecessary? Sorry I’m having so much trouble understanding al of this. Just trying to grow the best I can hehe.

I would recommend TPS Billions or Recharge for beneficial microbes with no Hydroguard :love_you_gesture:

From what I understand of Dr Bugbees explanation.
Pesticidal microbes such as bacillus amyloliquefaciens in hydroguard is absolutely beneficial in both soil and hydroponics.
Recharge has both pesticidal and nutrient cycling microbes. Its also kinda expensive compared to other options.
So since theres no science suggesting that nutrient cycling microbes offer any benefits in a synthetic hydroponic system.
I myself do not use any nutrient cycling microbes in my hydroponic grows.
I do use pesticidal microbes like hydroguard in my hydroponic grows.

Ultimately it’s up to you to use them or not.
Current scientific understanding says pesticidal microbes do for sure give benefits and theres no evidence so far that nutrient cycling microbes give any benefits.
I or ā€œscienceā€ can’t really say 100% that nutrient cycling microbes do not do anything, as it’s possible our scientific understanding is incomplete and there’s things we don’t know yet.

But currently, the science says pesticidal microbes are 100% beneficial in any grow and it apears so far that nutrient cycling microbes are not beneficial in fully synthetic systems.
But any one that has a scientific approach will admit they could be wrong. But it will take more then anecdotal evidence to change their mind.

I use Hydroguard is which a bacterial root inoculant that is designed to decompose organic matter and convert it to nutrients that can be absorbed directly by plants’ roots. [It contains Bacillus amyloliquefaciens bacteria, which is present in a concentration of 0.038% and contains a minimum of 1.00Ɨ10^4 cfu’s / ml ]). It is used in soil and hydroponics. There are others as well. For me it works great. I haven’t ventured out and tried others but, if it ain’t broke
