<~ Low’s Light Thread - Comparisons - Coverage - Diodes - Warranty - Price ~>

So i sent them a message on their website and gave them my contact info. They were closed at the time(i work night shift so it is normal for most place to be closed when i need something even when i get off in the AM:rofl::rofl:) their automatic system(im assuming) responded first with the standard were not online now but give us as much details as i can so they can further help when available. Maybe not in thoes exact words. I did so and later that evening when i woke i had that message saying to give that number a call or to email. I also received an email with the same conversation. The fallowing day i called around 10am and had to leave voicemail. And still nothing. I will definitely try again as suggested.

I will say, they were ontop of it when i was purchasing the light and helping me figure which light would be beneficial for my grow area and budget. 2 were suggested to me. Went with the 700 rspec FR

Mistakes do happen for sure in CS. These people probably deal with thousands of emails, calls and questions on a weekly bases so i can understand forgetting some here n there. Just wanted to share my experience as well :grimacing:

Glad you did. I think the automated system could have had a play in that… idk, and that’s no excuse either. In regard to the lack of communication, that is.

That was my first thought tbh. Damn robots :crazy_face::crazy_face:

What’s the issue with uour light?

No issue with the light itself just my dumb A trying to understand placement of plants under the light.

With the reflectors i wasnt sure if they were ment to help light be more evenly distributed in the center or to help decrease the light fall off around the edges or if its to help the overall even distribution of light. I 100% ment to ask this when they were helping with my other questions b4 i bought. Stoners… ik having something like a pdf metter would probably help with that but they be expensive  it is on my to get list tho.

The photon app does not seem to be as accurate as it use to be. At 32inchs with phone on floor, 100% power, in center i get a reading off barely 1000. Doesnt seen right at all for the light.

ill tell you as i told them, things like this i do not excell in understanding it on my own and if its a dumb question my mistake :grimacing::grimacing:

And in all honesty i may be doing it right already and not know it because my flowering girls seem to be loving it in there and overall super impressed with the light. HUGE upgrade from my 2 100w spider farmer light’s with 1plant
Some pics of the flowering room.

Also i didnt know if it mattered or if there was a “better” direction to face the light. Grow room was originally 5x5 but i needed more room to walk around the girls and work in there so i added 12inchs on one side. Sorry if thats to much, i appreciate whatever opinion or advice you got for me good sir

Also and this may be stupid to but since the light boards are in each conor of the light i thought maybe i should put my plants kinda “centered” under them? I feel like a goof as i typed everything ok

You’re thinking too much about a very simple concept. Take hid bulb for example, it will emit light in 360⁰ pattern all the way around bulb. But in just about all of our grows plants are only underneath the bulbs, so they are capturing the light originally thrown in other directions and redirecting back to where your plants are. This is sole purpose of reflecttors on lights.

That aged well :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

I think i tend to do that with things i feel like i dont understand

Complicated is my middle name sir :upside_down_face::crazy_face::crazy_face:

Thank you for that info tho, that does put things in simpler terms for me :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing:

@Low @dbrn32 between every grow, i always check my lights to make sure everything is working well (hlg scorpion diablo). I just turned on 2 of them at 10% and noticed rows of diodes either super dim or out. Once i turn them up to 20%, it goes from the rows down to a single diode on each light. I cant look at them after 20% so not sure after that. Should i be worried if these rows are actually putting out the same power as the rest as the power increases? I havent reached out to hlg yet, theyre still under warrant i believe but the thought of a possible return on such a large fixture has me coming here first.

I can’t answer, not on the electrical side of things. but have been in the same boat. If it’s under warranty it would be wise to take advantage. I contacted business and they sent me a new fixture. They let me keep the old one. This same fixture that had the issues with the diodes I kept running and had no issues, eventually the diodes started working again. Weird. But much smaller fixture than yours.

I’m not sure how the electrical trace is configured on the diablo boards but I would guess it needs to be replaced. Reach out to hlg.

Just because it’s relevant to this conversation, not all drivers will dim down to 10% without issue. I believe your driver should, but the older meanwells not rated to dim to zero.

Good info! Wonder if that’s why some of my older fixtures buzz on low dim

Ironic you mention that, i did hear a slight buzz on each of them at 20% but it goes away 30% and up

Probably. It could also be the type of dimmer and/or how it’s installed.

Most of the drivers in circulation are constant current and constant voltage/constant current. This just determines whether the current or voltage is prioritized from the driver output. On a constant current driver it shoves the current and looks for the voltage total to be in a certain range. Since leds are resistive load the forward voltage will drop with the current. If this starts approaching low range they can get a little tempormental. Same could be said for exceeding rated voltage range. In this situations the drivers will sense the overvoltage condition and go into a current limiting condition and only allow light to run at fraction of rated power.

The cv/cc drivers are a little different, but not immune to their own issues.

Thank you for the information. Always teaching me something.

Maybe try grabbing an ups and hook up and see if that helps eliminates any in house voltage disrupters.

@dbrn32 Just noticed my spider farmer sf2000 has a mean well driver.

It’s not the 205 w I thought it was according to the driver.
Is this really a 240 w light ?
Reason I’m here is I was noticing random dimming taking place when run thru the dimmer when turned up over 80%.
Tried a different wall plug and checked the connections. All seem to be good.
I happened to notice the “extra “ switch on the other side of the dimmer and flipped it.
I don’t have any dimmer control now but the random dimming stopped.
So. Question is Where to find a similar style dimmer to mount to the board.

No names or markings on it that I can see.

Rear view of dimmer and switch.
And no warranty left now either that it’s at 3 yrs old.
Any help would be appreciated when you get a few spare minutes. :joy:

This is a 240 watt driver but the power consumption of the light will be variable depending on how this driver is loaded.

The dimmer issue I’m not really sure about. These supposedly have 5 year warranty if I remember? If so, I’d ping them for a new one. Do you know if this is just a resistance dimmer? The meanwell xlg will dim on 0-10vdc, 10v pwm, or a resistance dimmer. So any of these will dim the light, but I don’t have the slightest idea about where to find one that would fit factory mount. This the reason I would start with warranty claim and see if they will stand behind the product.

The switch you hit is likely a bypass which sends the driver to the full current driver is set to. These drivers have a potentiometer on the bottom of them that sets maximum output current. If you turn it will increase/decrease current subsequently giving dimming control without having a dedicated dimmer. Not really convenient if you use dimmer often as you have to remove driver to access, but it will work in a pinch. My guess is this isn’t all the way up right now if the light won’t pull 240+ watts.

If you don’t care about size and shape of new dimmer I’m sure I could find one on Amazon. But again If you can run in bypass while reaching out for replacement I would at least try.

Appreciate the info and clarification my friend.
I received it new in box as a gifted tester so no sale slip but I’ll def reach out to them and see what they have to say about any warranty.
As for now it’s working ok and it only has to go another couple weeks till I flip and turn on the hps.
I’ll let yas know how it goes.
Thanks again for the help.:v:
