Yay!! I has gots 4 new little baby girls.
So this is the beginning of my journal. They are all GDP. I germinated 4 and they all grew roots and now they have all popped up. I hope they all make it. I did all 4 GPDs because that was the one plant that I grew last year and I loved the sleep it gives me. Since I only had one plant make it last year, out of 3 that came up, I’m hoping for 4 this year. Fingers crossed.
I have them under a florescent grow light. Should I keep that light on them 24 hours until they are ready to put in the tent? Then, I’m going to have lots of questions. @SausageMahoney@Bentstick@Growdoc@DankyMcSkunkbud and everyone.
Yeah, I don’t either, but it seems like I always have to deal with too much stretch with every grow I’ve done. This is only my 5th grow, but they have all been stretchers. I know it has to do with the amount of light, but this lamp is supposed to be for new seedlings.

Yes, I’m really careful about watering and do it with a spray bottle on the soil around the seedling. Last year was the first time I lost any seedlings, and I’m sure it was the seedling soil that I bought on Amazon. It was from China. I moved the one that was still hanging on but looking bad to FFOFsoil, and it perked right up. I threw the rest of that soil (very small bag) away.
I’ve done it all the ways and 24 on for the first 2 weeks works best for me
If they are stretching too much lower your light a few inches and that will help. Some lights have to be a lot closer than others
Thanks, Dman, so I have moved the light down to this position, it was about 5" higher. The seedling on the right was the first one to sprout night before last, and the one on the left and in back sprouted yesterday, with the one in front being last, it was up this morning when I got up.
I don’t know the wattage, I’ve had it for several years and I don’t remember. Would it say on one of the tubes? I’ll look it over and see what I can find on it.
Florescent tubes loose usable output fast. Depending on how much you’ve used them, that may be partly to blame for seedling stretching. What we see for the amount of light and the actual photons being delivered to the plant are not the same. For example, an incandescent bulb will light your house, but it won’t grow plants.
Wow, I didn’t know that! Thanks for that info, Budbrother. I’ll be getting a new one for my next grow. I bought this one in 2017 for my first grow. I’ve used it for 4 other grows, so it was time for it to go.. Maybe I should go ahead and order a new one today, as the new girls will need to be under it for a while longer before I can put them in the tent.
The girls are still stretching badly, even with the light this close. I found on the lights, that they are 24 watts each for the 2 tubes. I think they are way less than their prime, as Bigbrother mentioned.
@SausageMahoney Do you think I could put them on something in the tent and lower one of the lights (I have no idea how close) and dim the light? Would this work? I hate to see them keep reaching and stretching
They dont look too terrible yet. If mine stretch too much I will put a skewer in with a wire to stabilize. Give this a read. @Budbrother you got any insights on stretching sprouts?
I could get the main article on seedling stages, but not any of the links in the article. They all said access denied. I did read the article, and it’s very helpful.
I’m thinking about getting a new seedling light, if anyone has any recommendations, I would appreciate it. The light that I have is probably the reason my seedlings have always stretched, but this year seems to be worse, and most likely becuse it is old and no longer working efficiently.
