It's tax refund time how much LED light can $1k buy

A couple thoughts.

  1. Damn that was fast!

  2. Did you try any different orientation with the reflector mount? I don’t remember having an issue like that. But I know there are more than one configuration of each. Possibly double check all part numbers are compatible.

  3. Looks great so far! I remember having similar feelings, you’ll be impressed when they’re fired up.

Yep, I believe you’re right. I’m impressed, cobby’s got my business for the rest of this light. Oh, and yes I moved the adapter all around. It has a+ and - orientation mark

Good deal!

Not sure what the story is there reflector then. I’ve seen ideal holders that were listed as not compatible with the reflector mount. And I’ve seen different reflector mounts for different styles of holder. But I don’t believe should be off center like that.

I don’t either, but it’s listed as the right one for CLU048 or whatever style I bought. I’ll email them about it.

He’s pretty good about responding. Not sure if he does over weekend but I’m sure he’ll get back to you.

So what do you think about using 4" wide .250 thick aluminum bar stock to tie the heatsinks together. I can move the aluminum in as close to the COBs as possible and still allow for the reflector to give a better thermal dissapation of the heatsink

It will probably help some, not sure as to how much. You will have thermal resistance at joint. But make sure surfaces are clean and flat, and put a little bit of that thermal paste on the joint.

I guess I’ll start building as soon as I can get the machine shop to cut the bar stock into ? Pieces. How much separation do I need between COBs to get Max efficiency or efficacy?

Did you decide the pattern on how you’re going to mount them?

@OldSkunk I would build it with 4 cobs per 3 plants in a row. So 8 cobs per 6 plants minimum, if that makes sense? Over the center of them.

I haven’t really decided on the pattern. Probably similar to what @Daddy is suggesting with 2 rows of 4 spread across 4’. That way when I get the 2nd half of the light built, I will have one 4’ x 4’ that can be modified to different patterns @dbrn32

That works. I don’t really grow that large of plants, so a method like that doesn’t really work for me.

Ya it really depends on the footprint you want to achieve.

It sure would be nice to get coverage all the way out to the edge of 4’. The lights I have now won’t do it @Daddy.

how many plants do you want to run and how big?

If your fixtures are going to span the 4’ dimension of your space, put them on 12” centers. So end cob to end cob is 36” on center. You’ll have good even light from one wall to the other.

I usually run 10-14 plants. Usually 10 fems and 4 autos. With the lights I have now the fems average about 4’ while the autos are 2-3’.

I am running 6 fems at 4’ and I am using 12 vero29’s. I can get a little bit bigger footprint but not by much. That will kinda give you a reference I hope.

The drivers for the first half of the light have arrived.

Now I have to decide on a layout. This one

Or this one

I usually end up with something like pic 1. What are measurements and cob spacing on each?
