Hurricane is coming

@Lindababy, I know how you feel, I am living in the Florida Keys (35 years). This is a bad storm, it will be arriving on Sat, will know if I still have a home on Monday.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all in the path of Irma… Stay Safe.
We’re farther away from the coast and should be ok here. Make smart decisions and remember “stuff” can be replaced. You cant! :v:

And how are you coming along with that? How are all the critters doing?

For those in South Florida, PLEASE be safe. This looks like a direct hit on Miami/Ft Lauderdale. We have friends down in that are we are desperately trying to convince to evacuate and they are staying stubborn wanting to ride it out.

Like the gov said, lives can be rebuilt, LIFE cannot.

Take care @Lindababy and everyone else down there!

No matter where it hits in FL we are all gonna be affected in some way. Screwed

As we are with you. I think a lot of Floridians found religion after witnessing what happen there. God bless!

I think it’s gonna be their Sunday am. And I also heard that you are now on mandatory evacuation. Good luck to you!

Last time I had to evacuate in Florida for a hurricane I had a stubborn neighbor who said the same thing. I politely informed him that IF ANYONE lost their life trying to rescue him and his family it would be on his head. Then in front of his wife and daughter I asked for phone numbers of their next of kin. Yep :+1: His wife started packing up!!!

Hurricane prep continues. Still barreling toward FL. Cleaned off lanaii and once all of my clients have picked up their gowns. And once the hard winds kick in I can move the girls in. So glad I put them in those pots and that I can move them into the house. Hopefully will be just a few hours inside then they can go back out. Thanks Everyone for the well wishes. Best of luck to my fellow Floridians! And those affected by Harvey. Peace!

The problem, @rodri59 is where does a person evacuate to? There are countless times people evacuate, only to have the storm veer and hit them anyway. Then the highways turn into a gridlocked zoo of frightened, desperate people. Then after the storm, getting back home can be a nightmare.

Unless flooding is a concern, sheltering in place is often the best strategy. In my experience, anyway.

I agree on some of your points but not all. Flooding isn’t the only concern. Think WIND! I grew up in Florida and have seen firsthand the devastation of hurricanes. I have friends from Joplin while not a hurricane the devastation was enormous. Elderly, people who live in mobile/modular homes, many disabled and the list goes on should evacuate or be evacuated. Those who have the funds fly or drive out, many cannot. Local shelters, while not ideal, save lives!

Those who don’t heed warnings and have to be rescued later cause others to put their own well being on the line.

And yes, storms don’t always track the way we think sometimes and yes, getting back home can be a pain in the butt, but at least it’s an alive butt😊

Some problems, Bill my attack donkey jumped the fence and killed my neighbors donkey max. Bills an real Ass, hates all donkeys. But he had been put in adjacent pasture due to high water. All the animals were quite stressed throughout all this but been smoking alot with them now that company’s gone & they’re mellowing out.

Saying lots of prayers for all of you FL residents. My sister is in the pan handle and hoping they will fare ok sort of out of the path. My parents were in Punta Gorda when Charlie (I think that was the one) made a direct hit. It was horrible. Be safe my friends.

Yeah, not sure that inconvenience would rule over life in this case. Like everyone says, go North, then when you can, either continue North or turn in the direction that the storm is not projected to go. In this case west.

Like @SmoknGranny says it is not just about the hurricane itself. Its about the aftermath and those who are trapped that must be rescued. Flooding is ALWAYS a concern in Florida, no matter what part you are in. I would rather take my chances out of Florida. Evacuate early.

Dang. I’m sorry to hear that but animals can freak out about the weather just like us.
I’m sure that didn’t help much with all the rest of the stuff that you’re dealing with. Again, glad you’re okay :ok_hand:
