Coco is too expensive. id like to try to reuse it , My plan is to use a nylon mesh bag and pour water with H2o2 added hopefully that will disinfect and pass the salts and keep the coco??? also clean away all bacteria, as I been having PM issues and rather kill ALL bacteria then none. Then, I leave it in a container to dry out completely… Any idea coco Pros? Ty.
Do you use fabric bags? If so, i don’t see why you can’t just remove the root ball, and rinse it in the bag. Get the ppm’s uber low, let it dry, then resaturate with nutes.
Yes, i do, that should work too technically.
The salts should simply dilute with the water and pass thru the fabric bag… I love ez!
Lots of pH ed water. Goal is to flush any salt build up. Currently just finished a grow, that coco will get stirred up, sifted for roots for 3 months while being flushed as many times possible.
The very last wash, i used half strength nutes prior to transplanting my new girl.
5th grow with coco, first time with perlite added this grow, never washed with coco, does perlite add pH to coco?
An enzyme product is recommended. It’ll help breakdown what’s in the coco. But you can flush with plain water. You can also do peroxide and water soak, followed by a plain water flush to try and kill most of what’s lingering for a fresher start. There are a lot of flushing products out there too.
I’ve had decent success just cutting out the main stalk and some roots and replanting the same day without doing anything and saw no problems.
Some claim is has a pH but it is inert and won’t alter a medium.
Is this what you really ment to say. That is a lot of sifting for roots.
We post while under the influence.
There’s a video on the coco for cannabis website specifically for how to safely reuse your coco.
Best I found so far rakes a little bit of work but seems to work fairly well. I take my tub and fill it with hott water all hott add in like 2 to 3 cups of baking soda and prolly 2 to 3 cups of lemon juice mix good I set my pots right in the tub of water pouring water in the pot to soak the whole thing super super well leave it set for like 30 mins or so to break all shit down. Drain rub and when drained rinse each pot one at a time with all hott water til it comes out clean looking at first should be brownish color washing out all old nutes and buildup. Leave it set a bit and do the same again hott water til it comes out clear again. I do this rinse 2 to 4 times til it don’t seem to come out color bad last rinse I use all cold water and make sure to soak the whole pot down and make all the coco fibers where they r not holding heat from all the hott water to form mold inside. Leave it set to dry out and when it ready to use again just rea.mwnd the pot with full strength nutrients and micro es. I am about to start a experiment hopefully get plants in pots today but I got my hands on a soil regenerator I am about to test on some coco. Gonna do 3 clones all watered different to see results of the soil regenerator. I’ll do one where I amend the pot just the soil regenerator no nutes one with soil Regen and nutes full strength and one just nutes no soil Regen so we can see results with how the regenerator works or don’t. The one I start with soil Regen only is gonna get nutrients but gonna start it off with just the Regen to see if it does good alone hoping to get clones in the 7 gallon pots today
With the price of propane in my area right now I think the hot water would cost me more than new bags of coco, lol.
I’m sure just water would wash it all away but I’m sure hott breaks it down a bit faster. Lol. I’d say I use prolly a good 3 to 4 tubs worth of water for the whole process. But I usually wash 4 to 8 pots at a time
I hear you man, I was mostly just trying laugh for a moment instead of crying that my propane costs have almost doubled in the last year and change, lol.
I hear ya. All the surrounding stores near me have gone up almost double what they were in the last 4 months. Fricken insane lol. 899 a case for mt dew is now 1499. 799 case of coke is 1299vases of Gatorade was 649 now 899. Meats don’t even get me going there because now it costs me pretty much a weeks salary at 23 bucks an hour to get groceries for me and the wife and 2 kids now one kinda moves on our with her bf. All these rich people in the world need to bow together and donate money get a tax write off or something for it and help out other families that r in need. I mean he’ll everyone is in need of something but the ways I see commercials about oh this person is here to help the middle class families. Yeah help them go from mid class to low class and low class to no class. Lol. I just hope that everything breaks back to normal after the elections atleast. I just want my own island ran by me for me would be nice eeh. Own farm own greenhouse and own solar panel system to keep me powered up.
You can run cocoa a few times by just taking out the main root ball and chunks sifting it all together and putting it back in the bags and just rerun it I’ve used it up to four times without washing with no ill effects and then I just give it a good rinse with reg water to clean✌🏻
You actually dont need an enzyme if you have bacteria and dont need the coir immediately, just go in every week or two just do a light watering to keep the roots nice a permeable and in about 1-1.5 months the root ball will have totally been converted to nitrogen an youll have a great nitrogen rich coco mix , i usually add 50/50 old/ new coir mix, but if your coir is totally dried out just bang bang it against a big tote an sift your fingers through to get out the chunks of light root fibers
Doesnt this start putting pH into the coco by now having organic matter decaying/decomposting in the coco?
If it does I havnt noticed a difference in growth. Mixing food and coco was a no for me wasn’t told it was ffof til after I mixed it and then had bad pH issues but roots being left behind don’t seem to pose an issue so far. I’ve shifted coco left it alone besides gutting the big middle stem and dripping a plant in the pot without busting it up and I’ve shifted like stated above after beating it around a bit. All seem to do about the same for me here. Of course new does seem a bit better but reusing isn’t much of a difference at all.
