How much difference is there between brands

How much difference is there between brands for a given strain? The source of my confusion is Do-Si-Dos. I had good luck with this strain, although not sure I am consistent enough in everything else to be certain. This strain on ILGM I think would be considered a heavy hitter, 25% THC. If I look at the same strain on another seed bank it is a level below that, 10-20%. I’m trying to understand why there is a difference.

Since I’m relatively new, I tend to buy seeds that are on promotion. I haven’t developed a refined taste for strain differences, but THC level seems important. I always make gummies, and I would think the higher the THC level, the less chlorophyll will end up in the infusion for a given potency.

Don’t focus so much on the THC %. The terpene, cannabinoids and flavonoids produce what’s called the entourage effect. Do a little reading on the entourage effect. My strongest strains are anywhere from 15-22% THC but the above are what gives me the buzz effects I’m looking for :love_you_gesture:

OK, so here is a total newbie question. There are thousands of strains. How do the experts choose? It sounds like it’s mostly just experience, in which case it isn’t crazy to choose mostly on price in the beginning. But then the brand factor comes in. Because of promotions, one seed bank can be massively cheaper than another, but the brand is different so I don’t really know if they are comparable. BTW, I do know there are many seed banks and they vary in quality, so let’s assume I am sticking to the top three most popular seed banks. There isn’t much difference in quality there.

TBH, I feel the same way about wine. There is an enormous number of options and my taste isn’t refined enough to choose intelligently. Price is my biggest factor there as well. Perhaps I’m a lost cause in these things.

I hardly think about what bank I get them from beyond price and customer service. Thats why I use mostly ILGM because I know what I am getting and they honor their guarantee without grief. I will use Greenpoint because of the reverse auctions. Those can get really cheap. Ive got a few seeds from folks here but they have all grown great and all grown bad. I usually attribute the majority of quality, to me and what I have done correctly or incorrectly. Then try to replicate and identify those respectively.

Hi I’m no expert but I notice people choosing strains with high overall oil production for pressing and for extracts, just wanted to point that out 'cuz you make gummies.
I think the names are pretty messed up but we can go by reputation, what we see people growing here

I believe the breeder has a lot to do with it. You can use generic stock for breeding or you can use dank stock for breeding. I’d rather buy seeds from a small well-known connoisseur breeder, rather than a big company. That just bangs out seeds for money the small guy is going to put more time in love into his product. And you will notice

Also worth noting that just because a breeder posts 10% thc or 25% thc doesn’t mean the weed you grow will be the same. There are so many different factors that will impact your final harvest that breeder information is almost irrelevant.

You should also consider higher thc content strains are often void of classic terpenes and other cannabinoids. Like OGIncognito posted, this stuff can have a major impact in your overall experience.
