I have some northern lights seeds i bought grow here back in 2021. Are they still good? Ive kept them in the original package, in a padded envelope, in my basement, in a dark corner. I cant get them to sprout. Ive tried 4 my usual way of planting in happy frog soil and keeping moist. Now i have some in wet paper towel that wont pop. Any suggestions? Or are they garbage?

They should be good. Are you using peroxide and water to soak

Many many years if frozen. I just pulled some out that were 10 years old and most popped

Good to know, Never thought of freezing them.
I just planted some Blue Dream seeds I bought back in 2021 and they sprouted just fine. I store them in the original packaging in the basement as well. I soak them in 3% hydrogen peroxide for two days before planting them tails up to prevent helmet head.

I was able to geminate a seed from my dad’s personal strain that was in a tin stash box in the garage in New England for around 15 years. One out of about 30.. but she has been my favorite plant/strain since.

No I’m not. Whats the ratio of peroxide to water i should be using? And i never thought about freezing!

I put about a teaspoon of peroxide in a cup drop the seed in then add about 2 teaspoons of water. I soak for 24hrs or less if the seed has a tail. If not I put it in a paper towel put that in a baggie and set it on top of my cable box with something covering it

If you store them properly, a long time.
I keep my seeds in an airtight container that’s stored inside my refrigerator with some rice in the bottom of the container as well. I have seeds I ordered online in 2019 that still pop every time

How long can or should i soak in the peroxide water?

I usually soak for no more than 24hrs, sometimes a lot less If nothing is happening by then, I transfer it to paper towel and use the same water/peroxide they’ve been soaking in. I put that in a baggie stick it in a dvd box and set it on my cable box. If it doesn’t crack in the next 24hrs Its probably not gonna. Sometimes I only soak for a few minutes or an hour or two then put it in soil or a plug. Just did that with a Godfather OG seed it popped up today after only 3 days.
Its working. I got 1 tail and the other looks like its splitting like a pistachio. Should i put them in the soil as soon as i seen the tail?

I do but some wait until the tail gets 1/4in or more before they do. What kind of soil are you using?
I have 2 solo cups with FF happy frog soil. Once they outgrow the cups, theyll go outside.

Dumb question. When i plant the popped seed, should the tail face up or down in the soil?

Doesn’t really matter. Some say tail down some say up. I drop it in and however it lands I leave it. Sometimes if you put the tail down the sprout will come up with the husk still on. That can be an issue. Tail up the sprout has to right itself and doing that causes the husks to come off before the sprout pops out of the soil.
