HELP - Always cure too wet

So I have figured out drying, but now I need help figuring out this moisture equalization thing.

My buds enter the jars at 62%, I burp them daily. After a few days they get up to 63 and I do a longer vent to get them back down. I play this game for 2 months and I’m left with a product that smells pretty good, but still smokes wet.

What is the secret to getting the inner core to equalize with the rest of the bud?

What are your methods?

The only thing I can think of is I live somewhere where the ambient rh is 55 so maybe my burps aren’t doing enough?

If you are happy with the cure, I would spread the buds out overnight and see how they are. Leave them spread out until you get the texture that you are looking for.

Grab a moisture meter and set to hardwood, dry til the inner buds are at 11% and jar up, they will cure out and land right at 60% in the jar.:+1:

What does the rh read when you enter the jar? Do you burp them?

You could always try curing in grove bags, then jars for long term storage. I’ve had good luck with that method.

@DankyMcSkunkbud how long in grove bags before switching? I’ve had some in there sealed for 6 weeks but am afraid to open it.

What rh/moisture do you dry to before entering grove?

I usually 2-3 months in bags to stabilize to around 60% , then into 1/2 gallon canning jars with Boveda packs, vacuum sealed. The wife got me a rechargeable vacuum sealer for Christmas, it does regular and wide mouth jars.

What rh boveda?

I cure to 62% then jars with packs.

I would say this. At 62% to burn clean I let it sit a few hours out on a tray before rolling. I get a better grind and it burns better.
If I do not lay it out the grind balls up into tiny pills and it burns slow and can be uneven.

62% Boveda packs. 1 per jar.

Sealing in jars or bags will do this. When drying the outer part of flowers dry the fastest and when you seal them it will pull moisture from inner part of flowers. 63% isn’t bad though. This is about where you would want it for a long cure. If you’re specifically trying to get it pipe ready faster there’s a few things you can do. When you burp, empty your jar out onto a tray or something and let the buds rest for a bit before going back to jar or use a brown paper bag folded over at top for your first couple of days of curing. Curing fast will probably sacrifice some smoothness though.

I jar or bag when the outer layer is crispy, after they sit in a jar or bag the rh will usually spike. Then I’ll pull them out and into a brown paper bag just like stated above and sweat them for 8-10 hours. Then back into the bag or jar. I do this until it stabilizes under 65% humidity. Then burp in the jars, bags don’t need it. Sweating them in brown paper bags always helps to draw the trapped moisture and excess chlorophyll out of the buds. But smoothness comes from cure time from my experience.
