what do you use for kelp? I still havn’t gotten any yet. I definatly want to look into some more ferments. I had a 5 gal bucket of molasses so might as well use it at this point.
I get the BaS 5 gal bucket of kelp
guess I’ll have to add that to the list. Good thing I just made a grow fund payment.
Kelp - Veg
Aloe - Flowering
That’s the micronutrient supply for people not using ferments. Aloe also helps plants deal with heat stress due to the saponins within.
With the more recent issues I have been wondering how to adjust micros organically. I spent so many years growing for other people that weren’t willing to change or try new things. Now that I’m doing my own thing there is so much new info to absorb. I love it!! I appreciate you taking the time to help educate me.
BaS used to carry this, but it disappeared about 3 yrs ago.
More economical product. You use an eighth of a teaspoon per gallon instead of a whole teaspoon that build a soil brand uses. It’s also cheaper than BaS and dissolves much better/quicker.
So I’ve wondered since aloe is is high in saponins, could I use it as my surfactant in stead of SM90 or yucca?
It doesn’t make the water soapy like the Yucca or Quillaja does. You can add to brews without it sudsing up on you, so no.
I did try it that way but it didn’t work as I’d have expected. I’m a ThermX70 Yucca user, personally.
I used whatever yucca they had at the grow house in town. I had just bought a new pouch and Now I’ve managed to lose it. I’ve been staring at the aloe I have just wondering if I really needed to get more.
Waste not want not use it up and then get the better stuff. ThermX70 is a dark liquid (2-3 ml/gal) with a 70 brix.
The aloe, it’s up to you. Maybe a Xmas wish kinda deal.
Oh ya, I’ll find it as soon as I buy more. It will all get used though.
That’s how it always goes
I find with ThermX that I can add to my water and when done watering it has a chit tone of suds left on the bottom. I can refill with just water and not add more saponins. I love that chit!
I have a few friends that chip in on big purchases like lights, but Grow stuff is just a part of the monthly budget. I just have to prioritize purchases so I don’t spend too much at a time
I’ll have to give it a try, I like a good concentrated product.
I can understand that. I’m a budget grower, and I don’t spend on products often. If I had to choose between them, all day, it would be the yucca. It has the same minerals but more saponins plus sugars. The aloe above is 10 ppm saponins. I feel you get more mileage from the ThermX
Hey @Budbrother, sorry to bother you again, but I noticed BAS is having a sale today so I figured I would get an order together. I already ordered the citrus spray and it should be here later this week. I was going to grab up some optiveg and therm x. I have some rootwise. Would that be suitable inoculation to go with the optiveg? Did I understand correctly and I can skip the aloe from kis for now since I’m getting therm x? It would also appear that BAS doesn’t have any kelp meal at the moment. Do you have any thoughts on a second source?
Yes or plain ol Mycos
dealers choice on that
KiS or Kelp4less (bulk) DTE for like 5# is sometimes cheaper
Good morning everyone. The girls are trucking right along. I’m chasing my tail a little on the humidity. I got it down during the day and now it’s been plummeting around 2am. After that wake up 3 days in a row I guess I’m going to have to put the humidifier back in. I also found that I somehow lost my data cable for my logger when I dusted my PC the other day so I’m flying blind till I can get another cable. fortunately, having to go turn my alarm off after lights out made me aware of a few light leaks in the new grow room. Flower will have to wait until I can fix those this weekend. I think I’m going to have to ghetto up a dome for the outdoor too. It’s starting to drop into the low 40’s here and there at night. Glad I got the big roll of plastic. Unfortunately, the citrus spray has been delayed until Sunday so I guess I just have to watch her defoliate till then. At least the buds are looking and smelling decent, but the whole plant is getting pretty pale.
On the bright side, this little guy popped up in the WW2 after I chopped my cover crop.
Well, it’s been a long weekend. I started thinking about how I was going to make my dome and I decided for the effort I might as well just build the greenhouse. I have to cut and hang my last little piece of cattle panel and polish off all the rough and sharp bits with the flap disk and I’m ready for plastic. It’s been a bit of a challenge doing all the framing by myself on uneven ground and it shows a little. It’s good and solid though so I suppose that’s more impotent than pretty.
I couldn’t sleep Friday night so I put my insomnia to good use. I patched up all the light leaks, taped off all the displays in the grow room, did another round of tying, and readjusted all my circulation fans. With the exception of a few twisted leaf tips, everyone was looking good so I flipped the lights yesterday.
Thankfully, the delivery guys were on it last week and the citrus spray got here Friday. I did a foliar feed then and by today she is starting to green up some. Looks like that may have been just the ticket. Thanks again @Budbrother. One more question, Should I follow the directions for fruit trees and wait two weeks to reapply or should I do it sooner since I’m dealing with field crop? The aroma is really starting to develop and smells wonderful. It’s got just enough funk with tangerine smell I might be good. Finally we are to the exciting part of the grow. Soon everyone will be budding out and you’ll be able to smell my house from a mile away. I do believe It’s time for a fat doobie, tall glass of chocolate milk, and some video games. Lol, I swear I’m an adult.
