Im going to give that a whirl, i had a couple not like being put in the soil. But i like were your going with that.
I know that Purp and I were both running into loosing about half of them. They would decline within days of transplantation, so I decided to go slow while they adapted.
Notice the root doesn’t have any tiny root hairs = Water roots. This method allows them to get plenty of water while they adapt. Just go slow while the roots grow into the new medium. I like to swirl the roots in the soil on the bottom before adding in another tap. Once I see hairs form, I don’t bother with that.
Hope this helps y’all.
Shes eatin!! Fed again tonight and here are the numbers.

Trust the numbers, don’t get concerned unless it continues.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend!
They get ugly up close but they are still producing a bunch! For some reason the bottoms are getting ripe alot quicker that the top 1/2 of the tomato. Not sure what thats about

Bravo!
Thanks kapt
Looking awesome!
Type “ common tomato plant problems “ into google. There are some good websites with pictures, explanations, and remedies.
Btw you are doing great with controlling the medium #’s
Thanks man! Had to start feeding alot earlier than normal cause the ppm was so low out of the bag but i dont know if that didn’t end up being a good thing lol.
I need to look into the tomatoes. There are still dozens hanging there but they keep getting smaller and smaller haha.
Honestly I think an inert or low ppm medium is the way to go. Give you control and allows you to set a base. It appears to have worked out rather well for you. Pretty consistent! And being able to feed every time is an awesome goal.
Ive only not fed 1 time this grow and i should have then i was just checking lol. I like the theory! Whats a good low ppm soil. Like supposed to be low… lol.
Basically a top soil that you amend with things to aerate it. not a good answer I know, not much of a soil guy. Lol.
Maybe @Budbrother @LiesGrows @Caligurl
High temperatures and strong sunlight during ripening. The light and heat prompt the fruits to retain chlorophyll around the stem area, and the “shoulders” often become hard and leathery.
Many times, this happens when people prune too many sucker branches leaving the tomatoes exposed to too much sun.
All you can really do is pick now and let them ripen indoors
Wow thanks!! I left all the ones with green tops on them hoping they would be closer tomorrow. Its been over 100° several days already this summer and its gunna get worse before it gets better i imagine . Ive been pruning branches as they are turning brown and dying. The only other cutting on them ive done was just to clean up the bottoms to make it easier to water. Ive got a bunch off of them!! Thank you again for the info! Im brand new to tomato growing. Learning everyday haha.
Abu an inert soil is just soil that hasn’t been amended with nutes. I really like the promix moisture control soil with perlite or vermiculite. It has nothing in it until you add it. Great for seed thru bud , and cheap as…well…dirt.
Is that the big yellow cube thats compressed? Its at walmart usually, i think like $18 for 2/cu. That 1/3 what FF cost.
Is what I am using in my outdoor grow, and porch veggies and herbs, it is good stuff and as said it cheap compared to others. I use the Black and Blue bag Sunshine mix. From lowes.
Promix is peat, perlite and powdered limestone. Inert medium with the limestone acting as a pH buffer on the peat.
I’d add vermiculite & perlite for outside with the heat.
