I’m growing gg4 autoflower to help with sleep. The plant looks ready to harvest but the trichomes are still milky. It’s been flowering for about 8 weeks. The fan leaves are dying back big time. Should I just hold out and wait for the trichomes to turn nice and amber. I want it to put me OUT to sleep

At 8 weeks in flower you’re roughly just at the start of the harvest window.
Another couple weeks should give you the amber and sleep meds you’re looking for.
Going to 30% amber will give you more cbn in the mix and be better sleep meds for you too.

I’m sure one of the more experienced growers will chime in here but as someone who definitely leans to the Sativa up type high I don’t harvest until the pistils have darkened and curled in and there’s hardly a white pistil to be seen. I definitely am monitoring trichomes and I am checking for all cloudy trichs with maybe one or two amber but I also look at the state of the pistils to make sure I’ve let the buds ripen for a good yield. As someone who wants a couchlock high it looks like you may need to wait. Just as an example here’s how my pistils looked on a Bruce Banner I grew and I’m looking for an upbeat high:

Take that gg to 11 weeks at least. True flower. I promise that is getting into that amber window.
GG4 was our main medical flower for a couple of years. Just what works for us. You will get what you seek. Nobody could use it for a party. Everyone would be asleep in an hour. 9-10 weeks less sedative. That strain gets sedative fast so be prepared. Watch the amber %.

Just an addendum. Gg4 is very ph finicky. They also do not need to be pounded with light. THIRSTY so kinda watch that. Hungry. The flowers will get very dense. I get medium fade so if you are fading out already she is hungry or ph is a touch off. As I mentioned, finicky.

No sir. GG4 is VERY finicky with ph. 6.5-6.8. It hates even a few points up or down from there in flower. When my ph was off I always had the same issues you are having. Get it down a bit and keep feeding to harvest I suggest. Out of all the strains I have grown this was longest clone run. 2 years. I lost a whole scrog to ph once with it. Finished but really weak yield. She reacted fast and I never got her back. Was in flower. Not really a beginner strain.
Otherwise GG4 was our main pain/sedation med. You will ADORE it. No matter the yield it always is potent. Good cure helps.

thanks so much for the ph info, had no idea they were that finiky. But I want them to DROP KICK me to sleep, have plenty other strains for a party time

thanks for your input Storm. My concern is that they seem to be very dry, not sticky and firm. Should I go ahead and harvest or is this likely to fix itself?

Looks like fire right now. Gg4 gets sedative very fast. You appear to be in a good window. 2 hours after you cut them they will be sticky. Will tighten in cure. If you havent smoked good gg4 be prepared. It is not subtle.

Do you see any amber in the pictures? also do you think I should go ahead and cut them and hang them to dry? OR Wait a week or 1

I dont but can start ambering in days. It looks like a very potent stone right now. Amber is sedative. It is NOT needed for good stony smoke. It actually takes some of the high away. Many of us need sleep and pain med so amber. 90-100%cloudy is highest thc. Amber is degraded thc not psychoactive.
I took some better pics today by cutting off a head. Old guy wanted to see a pic of the full plant, so here they are. Still not seeing amber unless you do. thanks

Also feel way to dry, starting to freak me out I’ve worked to hard LOL
