ACI’s carbon is expensive. Maybe a start up with the easily refillable filter, but the same carbon from elsewhere in bulk.

I’m not really worried about smell control on exit. I usually just blow out the filters when old and perpetually clean the pre-filter. I just need to free up head room so it’s been low priority. I just really wanted the fresh because they weigh damn near nothing so they’re easier to mount.

If you aren’t worried about odor control for initial filtration why explore typical carbon filters? If you are looking for a pre filter why not explore merv. Cheaper.

I already do. I wrap the filter with merv13 and Velcro prior to adding the prefilter. It’s mainly about the heat removal.

Edit: I even got a sewing machine to refine them without Velcro

My environmental variables are now controlled by my central. The room now (5K later) remains 2° under room temp. Lights on increase temp by 4° of space and not lung room. Spaces have heated floors to maintain variables during winter.

The most extreme but still practical approach is a small adsorption-based cooling loop that uses water and silica gel or zeolite instead of air exchange to move heat. The chemistry is simple and proven: when water evaporates it absorbs a large amount of heat, and when that water vapor is adsorbed onto a dry solid surface the vapor pressure stays low, forcing continued evaporation and cooling. A sealed evaporator or wetted heat exchanger placed in the grow area provides cooling without adding airflow or affecting filtration. The adsorbent bed is then periodically regenerated outside the space by heating it to roughly 60–90 °C, which drives the water back out and dumps the heat elsewhere. By alternating between two beds, heat is pumped out using surface chemistry rather than fans or refrigerants, shaving peak temperatures while preserving odor control and avoiding high pressures or regulated chemicals.

I have zeolite for my CLS recovery. I run a 1.5" x 12" sieve with hemi lids

It’s also used for cacti (holds 10x weight in H2O.

Very elivated let it suck heat too by forcing water to evaporate in the room while the sieve keeps vapor pressure low. When it’s full, bake the sieve outside the space and dump the heat there, same regen logic as CLS.

I bake it at 300° for 8 hrs to refresh. I use the color changing Si 150° 4 hrs

Well hell idk-one sieve sucking water from a wet spot while the other bakes outside, then swap ’em, rinse and repeat. If you can steal some light heat to bake it, even better. Boom, cheap-ass chemical AC..

I’ll look at scaling it. Right now my numbers are inline with central ac and sometimes I have to add rh via swamp cooler. Looking at adding some solar for other day running spaces.
