Fritzen71’s first timer grow journal

O’Tay, here I go… my first post.

Answer these simple questions the best you can. If you aew not sure, just bring it to oue attention. We will figure it out.

  1. Indoor or outdoor? Indoor - size of grow? 1 Plant
  2. Otigin of seeds? Bought locally
  3. Strain of seeds? Godfather OG
  4. Regular, feminized, or autoflower? Feminized
  5. Origin of water. PH, EC/TDS of source water? Tap water. PH, EC/TDS Unknown as I didn’t have a testers when I started, but do now.
  6. PH and TDS/EC of if mixed solution?will test when I mix some.
  7. Grow method? Soil, Soil-less, Coco, Hydro, Aquaponics. Please explain. AC Infinity Coco Coir (no perlite added)
  8. Nutrients or fertilizer system used. Advanced Nutrients…. I already have Grow, Bloom, Micro, B-52 and Voodoo Juice, but have not fed yet as I’m not sure when to start as some posts say when the plant(s) have 3-4 sets of real leaves and others say when the round leaves start yellowing. Need advice on this. Also I did not (pretreat)the coco coir. I just soaked it in water. Should I have done anything to it? Like raise the PH or (Preload) with nutrients?
  9. What typr of lighting are you using? LED, HID (MH, CMH, HPS), or Fluorescents? Please elaborate.LED. AC Infinity Ionframe EVO6 4’x4’ currently set to 18 hrs of light on 40% intensity 1.5 ft above plant leaves with 1hr sunup/sundown

  13. Do you have a Ventilation system? Size? 4", 6"? No ventilation yet planning 6” AC Infinity
  14. Co2 Yes / No? No, but plan to add
  15. How long have you been growing? First time with Cannabis but have been growing plants for years. (Bonsai, fruits, veggies, herbs, flowers, grass(lawns) weeds, foot fungus :joy:
  16. What budget have you set in order to grow successfully? I have funds available to purchase the items I need, but will order as I need…
  17. If you grow hydro, then please explain your hydro method. DWC, R-DWC, Ebb and Flow, Or; Other? Other?

16b. Size and temperature of solution in reservoir?

Always try to upload a clear picture in white light of any issues you may have to allow the community to identify your issue.

Anything you feel would help us give you more informed advice should be included. Feel free to elaborate at the end of the survey.

I started with the damp paper towel in a baggie for germination. I put it in a 2.5 inch plastic seedling pot with a vented/domed lid when the taproot was about 1/8 inch and buried it root down about 1/8 inch.

Then life threw me a curveball and I had to leave town for a couple days. Needless to say… the plant started stretching toward the window and fell over because I didn’t have a timer on my light yet. Was just using a led grow bulb in a clamp light from the big box store while waiting for my Ionframe and Cloudforge humidifier to arrive. And it was turned off when I left.

So… this is where I am at now on day 15 transplanting to a larger space. Am planning on using the SCROG method to see if I can get it to fill up a 4x4 Grow tent. I also plan to use the LST method as much as possible. I know that training should start as early as possible. I have a few years of experience with training Bonsai Trees and training cannabis looks similar from what I have researched and seen on YouTube. Should be a cakewalk for me to SCROG it out to fill a 4x4 tent. I plan on posting pics and making Videos with my 4k video camera. Will update this thread as often as I can.

My plan is to start growing for medical use. I’m a 53yo disabled US Marine Veteran on a fixed income, but have some savings I’m using to get this started. I’m doing a trial run with this Godfather OG because I found seeds available locally and bought them on an impulse buy. I plan on making tinctures and edibles. I have PTSD, Degenerative disk disorder, arthritis, chronic pain, , depression, and have high probability to develop Alzheimer’s/Dementia as both my parents have developed symptoms. Any suggestions on a strain and techniques to make tinctures and edibles would be appreciated. I’m thinking Harlequin because of the 1:1 cbd/thc and the relaxing high that lets you function normally to get through a stressful day. Not that I do much but sit around most days. (I’m medically retired) I do get stressed out over simple things (OCD) and I’m a bit sensitive to THC.

I just moved and have a few other expenses that have a bit of priority right now. I plant to order a 4x4 tent, ventilation and fans in a couple weeks… Am waiting on the new AC Infinity AI+ controller system to come out later this month and don’t see the need for a tent yet or ventilation as my plant is on day 15 and I have time and am still doing work in the room I plan on using to grow in. It is an approximately 7ft x 11ft room with a 4x7 closet with no door. I plan on dividing it into separate climate controlled rooms with a couple of tents and using the closet for drying/curing and my supplies such as my supplements, tools, etc. (I’m renting an apartment so can’t go crazy with the room as I plan on moving in a couple years. (I hate Illinois!) :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Highest taxes in the US and corrupt politicians. Plan on moving to Alaska, Missouri, Kentucky, or Tennessee Not sure yet. I want to be in the hills or mountains with my nearest neighbor at least a few miles away.

Here are some pics of my transplant. Any advice or suggestions? Does it look healthy? Should I start feeding nutrients? Should I start misting the leaves? All input is welcomed and appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. You’ve clearly done your homework. Three suggestions:

More light

Less water

Don’t bother with CO2. You would need a fairly sophisticated environment for the plant to even use excess CO2, and most hobby growers are incapable of maintaining those conditions without the proper technical background and spending a whole lot of money to maintain the proper environment.

Continuing the discussion from Fritzen71’s first timer grow journal:

Thanx ‘fer da suggestions

  1. Light: Should I crank the intensity to 100% then?

  2. Water: I just watered the Coco Coir a bit before I transplanted because it was kinda dry… had been sitting for 2 weeks in a 20 gallon plastic tub without the lid on since I first expanded the block. I was afraid it might get mildewy. It hadn’t soaked down yet. I know the pic has visible water at the bottom of the hole I made, but I was kinda eager to get the transplant done and keep the stress low on the plant. I do have a light/moisture/Ph probe and checked the moisture at max depth with the probe about 30 mins after I transplanted and it was right in the middle of the green zone.

  3. CO2: okay… will nix that idea and save the money for other things. Like a water distillation setup for the distilled water I need for my Cloudforge T3. Distilled water is going to cost me a fortune to buy for it and A nice copper distiller I can also use to make moonshine with😉 (Bonus buy there buddy).

@Fritzen71 welcome to the family my friend @MidwestGuy has you covered happy growing my friend

Ty @Reed71. Any suggestions on feeding or anything else? Just trying to learn r/n and can’t sleep… so browsing here learning as much as possible.

Im in ky @Fritzen71 if it was me i wouldn’t use co2 i think it a big hassle to me but some like it. If you are new grower patients is the hardest part of growing i world try keep things simple as possible good luck. I grow organic so i don’t use all testers .

@Reed71 Ty. I have Kilos of patience. I have already decided to scrap the Co2 idea. I always use the K.I.S.S. Method when doing things. Was programmed into me in boot camp. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: 13 weeks of it was bashed into my “Jarhead” arse under extreme conditions. But I was born for dis shit… I’m 80% Norwegian (Viking Axe wielding), 15% Scottish (Kilt wearing, Bagpipe playing, Whisky :tumbler_glass: Drinkin’) 2% Native American (peace pipe smokin) arsehole with absolutely no fear and all the time in the world to think of crazy shit to do. Like growing cannabis. lol

First and foremost thank uou fornyour service. It is clear you did you homework on this matter and off to a good start… i might ip the light intensity to 50% to help with the lankyness

@Mmanson1981 Ty. Already upper the lighting to 60% after I talked to my Step nephew who has been growing indoor cannabis for a few years. He was the one that got me into this shit :poop: in the first place. Was with him when I bought the seeds. He convinced me that $35 for 5 seeds was a good sale and I like the Kush that he’s been selling me. (He gets his seeds online from a seed bank) he gave me the Coco Coir and the Nutes to get me started. He was also the one that bought me the LED Grow bulb, clamp lamp and heat mat and 3” starter pots with vented domed lids that I used to start my seedling. He also recommended that I take it slow my first time and only do 1 plant as a learning process. Just so I can experience the “Joys” as he calls it of harvesting, trimming, and drying/curing. But from what I been reading the trimming of the buds after harvest can be quite tedious and possibly even painful. Especially for those of us with carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis. lol.

First thing first , thank you for your service, horah brother! Your off to a great start an your nephew clearly knows a great deal of what he’s doing. Happy growing brother.

@DanB Ty. He’s a great kid…, he was up in Wisconsin scouting for deer. He’s Native American. His mom is 50% her dad is 100% and a Tribal Elder. His grandpa taught him how to track and scout for various animals and how to hunt and trap with handmade traditional tools… and how to make those tools… from making arrowheads to how to how to process an animal with absolutely 0 waste… even the bowel contents can be used… both medicinally in salves an as fertilizer for medicinal herbs grown by the medicine men and women… believe it or not there are records of growing inside teepees from thousands of years ago year round……… they had ways of making Semi transparent panels for tent walls that could be opened and closed with flaps to control lighting in both summer and winter. I’m looking to build a cabin and live off the land someplace. R/N am leaning towards Alaska. Mostly because they still allow homesteading & subsidize those living off the land. And so damn much open area along the rivers and streams that is uninhabited.

Absolutely loved reading this, and I love the native American people’s as an entirety. I thought about off the grid but I owe my ex wife too much in child support they would definitely start looking for me lmfao.
