Fall 2026 RDWC Journal

Good morning @Retiredoldguy here is my root zone.

PH starts at 6.4 ish on res change. 5.6 3 days later.

Res temps has only been above 74° twice when Ive checked and never above 77°. And that’s only when I keep the door to the room closed.

I don’t see a lot of air bubbles in your tote. Is my first response. In my setup, the plants will move my pH high when they’re in heavy veg and low when they’re in heavy flower. I don’t try to adjust after a change out. Your water temperature is on the high side, but I’ve ran that high as well, as long as you’re using some kind of hydro guard or some kind of inoculant to knock out the root rot, you should be OK… I do see some yellow on your roots, but that could be light through your yellow top coming in. Do you see any slime on your roots?

@Retiredoldguy I’m using (2) 5” air stones with a nice air pump (I thought)

To me the roots looked like they were turning slightly brown. Added the fungicide this morning. The ILGM roots all still look white as snow to my eye so far. They are also chugging along. Didn’t check for slime before I left for work. The fungicide seems to stain the roots brown so I wanted to go without until I saw bad signs. Still haven’t added it to the ILGM stuff atp.

Hats off to you for trying your best to save this plant.

I in every run have culled a finicky troublemaker.
First of all I do not have the knowledge base to " fix " stuff I do not understand. If I am in the guardrails and it’s not working for 1 out of 7 or 4 plants it’s dead to me.

I will let it go if it gets out of control. Right now hopefully is still recoverable. I already let 3 troublemakers go from the same 2 strains from the same breeder. I had more ethos seeds fail me than any other seed combined in the 2 years I been growing, including before I knew what I was doing.

Really disappointed, although I’m sure it’s my fault but how can something be so much less tolerant of conditions? Getting these things to germinate is pulling teeth.

Sorry not quite understanding everything you said . The pump and stones are more than efficient for 1 tote…. :cowboy_hat_face:

Sorry, apparently I type the same way I talk……. Incoherently. :joy:

The roots look fine on the other 2 I am growing.

There was some slight discoloration on the roots for the problem child. I added fungicide this morning.

My ILGM plants are eating up everything with zero problems so far. All conditions are the same otherwise. I’m confused about why only one is having problems. Other than breeder source.

All the ethos seeds I have tried have been nothing but trouble. 3 out of 4 didn’t germinate and the problem child is the 4th that made it.

Morning, Growmie…. I guess it could be genetics causing this, but something to consider since you’re water temperature is on the high side, you need to have a lot of oxygen being pumped into that water because warm water doesn’t hold the oxygen as well as colder water does, so your plant can’t take it in. Maybe this particular plant struggles on that end of your grow style. Just a thought to consider. I’ve also seen leaves look like that right before they shriveled up from too much heat, not sure if that could be an issue with your light too close.:cowboy_hat_face:

Day 46 from sprout

Put some clips on 2 to spread them out for the light. Hydro grows so fast clips have to come off after like 3 days. Everything is about 6” tall. Thinking flip around 12” maybe Ill let them get a little bigger than that. PH definitely moving down during the week. Added some ph up this evening.

GSCE seems to have overtaken the strawberry cough, both these ILGM strains are impressive with the vigor.

Strawberry cough still doing well, stems already too thick to apply training clips. Looks a bit pale to me. Probably increase nutes on res change to 3/4 dose

Candy store doing ok. Only going with 4 main colas due to lagging growth. It’ll be fine.

I’m about 24” above canopy, 70% power on the light.

Morning, growmie…. Looking good… ph should not go down in veg. It might go up, but it should never go down. Something is not stable in your nutrients because the plant in veg will not make the pH go down…… I see you added some reflective foil to the top of your totes. I think that’s a great idea because that yellow lid does let in enough light to cause things to grow in my humble opinion.:cowboy_hat_face:

Good morning @Retiredoldguy maybe I’m confused or something.

Here is my nute cocktail: all 1/2 recommended dose into 5 gallon RO water from Kroger in the following order

ArmorSi (I add this first usually couple hours before anything else)

Calimagic
Flora micro
Flora gro
Flora bloom
Terpinator

I know base is supposed to be mixed first, not sure im doing it in correct order. Agitating a 5 gallon jug is kinda difficult even for a strong guy like myself. I wait like 2 hours after res change to check ph and it is usually 6.4-6.5. Then a few days later it drops.

Maybe I’m getting a bad early reading until everything mixes through the air stones? Admittedly I don’t check the ph daily. I also remember ph dropping in my first hydro grow thats why I thought it was normal.

This is only my second attempt at hydro, any recommendations are welcome.

I added the foil because I saw it on your totes. :squinting_face_with_tongue: but as a carpenter, i used the HVAC duct insulation from the job Im on hoping it would also help keep the solution cooler.

You’re using the same nutrient line as me. I use a 5 gallon bucket paint stirrer from the Home Depot store to stir my 5 gallon bucket that same paint stirrer also serves as my tote level measuring stick to know when I need to add more water or nutrients to my totes. I see now you don’t adjust your pH when you mix your nutrients. I always adjust my nutrient mix to six after I mix everything.. Not sure if not adding any pH solution to your initial nutrient mix causes an issue. It shouldn’t, but that’s the one thing you’re doing different than me

This is my feeding schedule and chart that I use as a guide. The comments to the right or the values that I get after I mix everything and before I pH adjust, I put those numbers there as my checks and balance. That’s what it should always come out to, and if it doesn’t, then I know something is wrong

Good morning @Retiredoldguy @TigerLilly

Things seem to be going well still. All plants are robust and vigorous. GSCE has surpassed the strawberry cough growth wise. And now the biggest is the Ethos candy store that gave me so many problems in the beginning.

I have worked 25 of the last 26 days. Sore AF. Being a 50 year old carpenter can be challenging sometimes.

Hopefully, I finish today on one of my jobs and can get back to taking care of my animals and my plants next week

So I have no idea what the hell is going on with this ethos stuff I bought. :joy: One issue after another. Although I dont know it’s catastrophic.

Is this nitrogen toxicity?

Anyway things are growing. All about 9” tall. ILGM strawberry cough and GSCE plugging along looking fantastic. Flip coming next friday come hell or high water. Will do a prune on Monday and see what happens. Been removing large fans only

A touch. Looks like nearing the threshold there. You’re showing dark and it has begun clawing. Doesn’t seem to be shooting up in response though.
