Photos will follow once they unfurl fully.
First adult leaves coming in.
Goodbye seedling phase,
Hello Veg phase!
Photos will follow once they unfurl fully.
This update is being posted for 2 reasons.
1). To show progress on the 4 plants, from seedling to start of Veg stage!
2). I have Jekyll and Hyde plants.
The past few days I was growing concerned. Was I under watering or over watering my plants
again or was I not giving them the correct nutrition they required, as I did with my last grow.
I’m here thinking I’m screwing this up as I did the first time. Again, I was over reacting.
I caught myself when I accidentally touched one of the plants yesterday when watering them,
the plant bent itself over as if I broke it. Return an hour later and BOOM it’s back to normal.
Ok so on to the photos.
This is a photograph of my current grow just when the lights come one after one of their
4 hour dark cycles.
This is one of the Rags plants below.
This is a ILGM Gorilla Glue Photo plant below.
Now after 30 minutes to 1 hour of light this is the result of all four plants below.
Ronny and Rita the Rags waking up (below).
ILGM Gorilla Glue plants after same light exposure below.
Not only do the plants behave very differently, but again we have a great example of
superior genetics and breeding. The price of good stock can mean the difference between
an easy grow and a difficult endeavor.
Hope this helps someone pull the trigger on buying some good seeds.
(que the “This or that” song from the 90’s)
On December 5th, these were little green nubs in a sea of soil.
in less than 3 weeks (relatively speaking) they are progressing nicely, despite the
attitude adjustment required by the street rags on the right.
Have a great week everyone,
4 days until Christmas, so have a safe and merry one.
If you’re lacking a gift idea, I believe @merlin44 has a fantastic idea for that
cannabis fan that is hard to shop for! Red Ribbons not included!
Kindest regards,
PhillyRock
Experiment is over
Both Ronny and Rita and male plants.
I have NO IDEA how, at just entering vegetation phase, they are already showing
pollen pods. The Gorilla Glue plants are fine, not a thing wrong with them. Look normal,
just like my last 3 plants.
Unless there is a way to convert male plants into females, I’ll be chopping these down
and throwing them into the trash tomorrow.
@Covertgrower @merlin44 @Davyg @MattyBear @dbrn32
I’m just tagging a few growers to get a second opinion.
I’m so inexperienced that this could be a common thing for young plants before they mature,
but that is just “fingers crossed” wishful thinking.
That’s for sure male and if the pollen sacks are that progressed, you might wanna double check your timers to make sure they didn’t accidentally get bumped and are staying off for 12 hours at a time
Just checked, and nope!
The timer is fine. The ILGM Gorilla Glues I have growing next to them aren’t even showing the slightest sign of sex yet. This is extremely odd, so young and already growing an impressive set of pods.
I have no idea how old these are what conditions they were stored in or even what type of life
they had before I got a few bags to smoke. I’m seriously pissed because I put so much
effort into this stupid experiment. That’s what I get for trying to grow street seeds I guess.
Takes about 4 weeks or so for plants to mature. Were they younger than that?
The experiment isn’t a failure, if anything it highlights the difficulties in trying to grow off par seeds. There is so much junk out there that the original prized genetics are being lost. If anything, you have proved, even at this early stage how much of a difference good genetics make. ILGM don’t deliver to the uk so I am stuck trying to source a decent bank and I will be paying .ore attention to lineage in future
4 weeks or so for plants to mature. @dbrn32
They were just at that stage. They were transplanted on the 5th of December.
Everyone has you covered on this, full blown male. There is no way for a male plant to magically become a female plant. As you know, female plants can hermie but not the other way around. Some of the pollen sacks appear to be maturing…get rid of the males before they pollenate your females.
The comments on genetics and quality seeds are relevant…That said, even purchase excellent seeds, if they are “regular” seeds, about half will be male and start showing at about 4 weeks old.
I don’t have plans to do any breeding so I purchase “feminized” seeds from ILGM. I have not had a male plant yet after seven or eight grows. Not even a hermie.
I’ve never been to Europe but I’ve read that Amsterdam has some of the best cannabis professionals on the planet. Is that true or have I been reading too many old copies of HighTimes?
I’d love to hop a train and grab some good genetic seeds from Holland (Netherlands sounds soooooo hoity toity). But again I might be completely wrong because I’ve never been there.
I’ve only ever been to Mexico and the Bahamas.
Honestly, I’d give you a few seeds as a gesture of
Thank’s and appreciation for the feedback and comradery of this hobby.
Have a merry Christmas bro and
I hope nothing but the best for you
and your family.
Kind words and thank you @PhillyRock. I’ve never done the Amsterdam trip although my seed bank is Dutch. I tried a uk based bank but my success always seemed to be limited. I either couldn’t germinate or I had oddball plants. One grew to about 6 inches tall and looked like a strawberry plant, the rest just failed miserably in stature and yield. That was one of the reasons I watched your experiment, I had to be sure it wasn’t me. I’ve never had as many problems before or since. The camaraderie of this hobby and particularly this forum, never ceases to amaze me, just love it . I hope you and yours have an amazing Christmas and wish you nothing but good fortune and the best of good health to enjoy it. Take care brother Phillyrock and stay safe
Nothing wasted here not even time…there is no Failures only lessons and knowledge to be gained! Everyone has said it all just wanted to add my 2 cents…Great work and I say do your experiment again just use your good genetics I believe you will not do them any harm and the strength of ilgm genetics will allow you to see your experiment through to the end this time by taking faulty/male genetics out of the experiment variables! Hope you and yours are healthy and safe!
As disheartening as the discovery was of my two plants having balls, I ended them the way
the “Crying Game” would have ended if I were writing the movie. With a CHOP and a
quick disposal of the bodies. However, I’m NOT giving up!
I know the old black and white image circulating on the internet, “how to tell Male seeds from
Female seed” is total bullshit, I used a variety of seed variations to maybe help better my
chances. Large, small, oblong and oval, hopefully I’ll get at least one female from the bunch.
This just means my ILGM Gorilla Glue plants will have an extra month of veg on them before
I flip the switch and start them flowering. Que sera sera, right?
The three seeds didn’t pop tails but they are in dirt just in case.
Dropped three more in water so maybe out of the six I’ll get something going.
BTW, the two Gorilla Glue ILGM plants are doing fantastic. The Rhino skin
has their stems just as thick as my last batch of plants at harvest, and they are only 7
inches tall. These will be MONSTERS when ready.
@PhillyRock
They do look Skanky tho…
Skanky ain’t the word,
If street junkies had a strain it would be these!
But in defense of the bud I smoked out of this lot, it was really good.
Strong cerebral high with a couch lock that didn’t inhibit movement.
My hands felt like 10lb bricks when trying to move. It was super groovy.
If it was a cheap and crappy buzz I wouldn’t bother, but MAN this was decent.
