Hi growmies ![]()
I am trying something new this run.
End of week 8 flower i let them dry out alot more then normal before i water. But how many times should i do that before there is an effect?
Never pushed it to the extremes but I stop watering when the amber starts coming in. Try to get a jump on drying since we live in a very humid area.
And then there’s the opposite environment (like me) where it’s dry af and you don’t want them to dry out too fast so I like to water them prior to harvest ![]()
What you’re doing now - letting them dry out good before watering again is the way most people do it tho. These plants definitely prefer to be too dry vs too wet.
Whether or not you notice a difference and how long it takes is gonna depend on so many factors (what did you do last time vs this time, how long have you been doing what you’re doing now, are you feeding the same amount as last time, are you feeding every watering)… unless someone else is mimicking your grow - that’s gonna be a hard question to answer without more information.
You can post some pictures of your grow and tell us the current conditions if you’re worried about something?
Otherwise if the plants look happy and you’ve been doing what you’re doing for a week or two - you’re probably fine ![]()

I was at a cannabis growing class where targeted dry backs were discussed. I did some looking on line when I got home and found this article on dry backs. It talks about optimal times to do a dry back. Hope this helps.
This is a great read @patrick1960 thank you for sharing this!
Im not worried about anything this run
everything have just been spot on![]()
My previous runs i have been over feeding them and they got a little lockout, so they were struggling a bit in the end. I think thats why i could not turn my light up to 100% without them getting a little light bleach. But this run they did not get stressed when i turned the light up to 100%. But i want to stress them a bit some how. So i thought the only way was to let them dry out a bit. Normally they get water every 4 days. This time i waited 6 days before i gave them water. And think i will wait 6 days again before water
Great article
but it say that a stressed dry back in late flower will make you loose terpines?? I thought it would make more terpines if you give them some controlled stress? Am i totally wrong?
I am a novice to this subject so I can’t really offer any more insight. The one thing I heard in my class was letting them dry back in stretch to try and limit the stretch. Good luck on your quest.
I used auto pots for first time last grow on a Bruce Banner and Girl Scout Cookies (both ILGM). Was very surprised by how much they yielded. Largest yield to date by far. But I always tried to exercise a dry back philosophy before. Does anyone have any advice on dry back and auto pots? I am happy with the yield but bud density was not as good as usual. Thanks- and excellent article
Both plants were autos.
Maybe @Dman1969 can chip in? ![]()
Thanks for the tag
Dan. I’ve never let the Autopots dry back so I’m no good on this sorry. But in theory it sounds like a good idea. ![]()

Based on my previous experience with them I think some more detailed and better documented is called for. Growing and improving. Thanks for the reply
