@Budbrother it’s been a little over a week now that the soil has been cooking and hopefully coming to life. You mentioned your
“organic “ppm numbers how did you get that I supposed a slurry test am I correct? I had to do a slurry test I know it’s still to early but I had to know where I was at so far, not knowing was getting to me. But I came up with 900 - 1000 , kind of low I think. I did not add everything I had in it this time , what I did add for nutrients was that Gaia green 2-8-4 about 6 tablespoons total for 5 gallons of soil and it called for 3 tablespoons per gallon and I added 2 tablespoons of DTE kelp and 2 tablespoons of the DTE Bio fish total to the 5 gallons of soil. I would like to see ppm around 2000-2500 I believe in the past whenever I did a runoff test the plants look good at those numbers. What do you recommend for nutrients. Plus the soil is very airy does not hold any shape whatsoever. Judy’s falls apart ?

I have a BlueLabs Pulse meter. It covers water %, temp, and EC

You’re good for now. The base has plenty of nutes for a while. Don’t wanna burn the lil ones. Can always top dress more when need food.

It should be lite and fluffy to make the roots easier to penetrate. When moist, will it hold it shape but easily break apart?

Thanks for reply and sorry about bad spelling. Yes I did a slurry your correct. When you mentioned your
Organic PPM I figured you came to that other then a slurry test but I wanted to make sure. The reason I was concerned about my Low PPM is because a fresh batch of FFOF has at the lest double what mine has.
As far as the soil hold shape went wet no it really doesn’t. If I go to transplant out of a solo cup it would fall apart and disturb roots no mater how careful I am. I was thinking adding more compost but that would or might throw everything off again ??

I don’t need to ever slurry anymore now that I use the Pulse meter

I can zip right through and know how much water each plant needs or if they need feeding

Edit: FF has been all over the place on numbers the last few yrs.

By the time you transfer from the solo cup, the roots should hold the soil or your transplanting too soon

Yes, you could add more Bu’s blend without throwing off anything. It would also bump up the PPM.

If you add more Bu’s, is that to a tote of the cooking or a pot? Sorry, I forget

Edit: can you take a handful and show a pic for me? Then squeeze it for me and pic? You may need to go more peat

That’s BL meter is a nice tool, beats flooding the root zone to get numbers. I sure would like to see a 50% price drop lol.
Good to know about Malibu thanks , I used rice hulls and perlite at 50/50 to make up a third of mix.
What amount of the Malibu would you add ?? I plan on separating my mix into 5 gallon s and adding to each instead of adding it to the whole tote and trying to mix in to get a better blend of mix if the way I worded it makes sense.
Yes FF is different it seems from bag to bag. I think maybe before it’s put into containers to be used it wouldn’t hurt to dump the bag out and remix it ? It sure if that would help but couldn’t hurt.

All I have to do is touch it and it falls apart

Don’t know what you mean? Slurry takes a core sample and then equal weight of water let sit a few hrs to overnight covered then test.

These are cheap and I can select the depth of the sample to test

More compost is gonna make that looser. I’d go with more EWC or just add another part peat.

That slurry test I did after a week ph was 6.1 - 6.2 made me a little concerned also but I figured the OF still needs time to work. If I add another part peat should I add something to help ph ?

First off That would depend on your source water pH

With that pH it still cooking and has a healthy microbial pop. Microbial dom - low pH
