Here’s hoping. I’m headed home to dilute and serve it up before it storms.
So damn oppressive outside. I did about 90 mins of work on a ladder and was soaked through my shirt. Stopped at a great swimming hole on the way back to civilization from the job site - it’s one of those ones where it’s basically just a rock 8 feet off the water you can dive in and cool off fast. And it’s COLD. Actually it wasn’t as cold as It gets sometimes but damn cold and refreshing. Just not that kind of cold where you can’t keep your breath but cold like you’ll get brain freeze if you stay under too long. Straight down from the top of the mountain.
So that detour slowed me down a bit but still managed to get the compost tea diluted and distributed. In between rain showers.
I feel ya buddy, im currently on a welding job, fun
That is my favorite way to describe this NE heat/humidity…oppressive!
Y’all talkin humidity should come to the Midwest Oppression is a light way to put it in Kansas
@grizZz humidity around here comes and then it doesn’t quit until im crying about bud rot. Then it just rains and I cry more
@thedeernad unfortunately I think I’ll be leaning on your shoulder with this one also this year. First time growing outdoors here and just…wow. Learned a lot and haven’t stopped just based solely on weather and how my plants respond. Good luck with your stuff it’s lookin better than mine anyways . Can see mine in the outdoor section entitled “Kansas First Time Outdoor”…will most likely have to scroll to find but come check me out I’m such a noob
Understanding what your weather might do in the fall is the best thing you can do to mentally prepare for battling the scourge of bud rot! For me we go from hot/humid to rain/humid and there is usually little wiggle room in between
It’s when it cools down and you get that cool/humid nights that I start really getting worried.
The power of tea compels you!!
I swear they put on 25% growth overnight.
And the banana kushes… this one is gonna be a solid cola from dirt to top I think lol
Is that a five gallon batch @Deez ? I feed my compost tea at full strength, but you certainly can mix in the ratio you spoke of. If foliar spraying compost teas, you definitely want to look up the appropriate ratio. So glad you are geeking out to it, and I think you will love the results, and not wasting all that money on liquid nutrients!!
@Deez gotta love that tea foam!!
@IslandGrown76 Thank you! Getting away from bottled nutrients is definitely some thing that’s driving me. Yes, that was about 5 gallons worth of tea. I’m fine with feeding at full strength if that’s the thing to do. How much of it do you usually feed at a time?
I gave a full waterings worth of diluted compost tea which for me is about 20% of the total volume of the pot. So for my 7 gallon pots I gave it about 5 quarts and for my 25 gallon pots I gave them each like a full bucket worth so about 5 gallons. Curious how much do you feed when you feed at full strength
As far as seaweed goes, I am unfortunately not close enough to the coast to go harvest my own. Is there dried seaweed that you’d recommend that can be purchased in bulk or is it better to just buy liquid seaweed extract by the bottle from someone like Neptunes harvest?
I just use the Neptune’s but there definitely is a dried kelp meal you can buy. I think if I am remembering correctly, I give ONE gallon per plant. I use about two cups of compost, one tablespoon of molasses per gallon of H2O, spacing on how much seaweed, and about a 1/2 cup of insect frass.
Nice I’ve read a bit about insect frass. I think my next thing to try is to make a bloom tea if there is such a thing. Thinking like a big handful of compost, some high P bat guano, and molasses
@Dee23 here’s this summers outdoor
Looks lovely!
Hey @Deez since you like to garden, plant a bed of comfry… chop it up to 4 times a year and fill 5 gallon buckets half full with the plant matter. Fill with water and loosely lid them. Wait 3 weeks, the tea should be mixed 10:1 with water. The tea is suposedly one of the best fertilizers you can get, and its free.
Plants friken love it!
Comfry is called a dynamic accumulator… it mines nutrients and minerals from the ground and stores it in the plant material.
The best part is its super easy to make… when its done it really stinks! Smells like sewage.
Really interesting. Sounds like something good to try for next years outdoor.
@Cannabian you building a new patio?
High,
Fantastic pics. I hope to do as well as all of you again this year. I have a combination of Gorilla Glue, Maui and Stumble weed. Tying to keep them under 10 foot this year. I have been fimming, topping and super cropping to keep them low. Seems to be working somewhat but it’s only the end of June. We will see. Happy growin
