The upper end of the UV spectrum, between 400 nm to 315 nm, is the most prevalent spectrum of UV light on earth. UV-A makes up 98.7 percent of all UV light that reaches us from the sun.
Is UV-A good for plants?
Most evidence suggests that UV-A exposure isn’t tied to DNA damage in plants. This is not a surprising fact, considering that plants are exposed to high levels of low-intensity UV-A in their natural environment. Generally speaking, the UV-A included in most grow room lights won’t cause any damage to your harvest, and in the case of cannabis, they might even improve THC and CBD production.
The Wavelength Range of IR Light and Its Effects
The IR light’s wavelength range is between 700 and 1,000 nanometers (nm). Within this range, different wavelengths of IR light have unique effects on cannabis growth and development.
For example, wavelengths between 700 and 800 nm, known as the far-red region, can promote stem elongation and trigger the flowering response in cannabis plants. Wavelengths between 800 and 1,000 nm, known as the infrared region, can stimulate heat production, promoting healthy growth and development.
Providing the right balance of IR light within this wavelength range is essential to ensure optimal cannabis growth. Too much IR light can cause excessive heat and stress on the plant, while too little can result in stunted growth and reduced yields.
I have only used UVA, I have not used supplemental IR. As everything is dialed in and the crop stays healthy I don’t see why they wouldn’t be beneficial.
@JJ520 has the mars hydro version of these maybe he can chime in with his experience
Nice post @Low! Been reading allot about the use of green lately, supposed to really penetrate. Someone here sometime ago was experimenting w green and I cannot remember whom it was…? Table is looking great guys! And looks like ya might wanna get @MadamCalamity a press for Christmas Thanks for all you two do!
LOL thank you thumper, I think she had fun doing it! I’m sure she will be doing more soon and seeing what works.
I’d like to get ALL of the old stuff pressed and decarbed for edibles or w/e. Really like the capsule idea.
If your up for a read here is a cool study I found
Green (~520–560 nm) Light
Green light is often considered unavailable for plant growth since plant photosynthetic pigments have limited absorbance for these wavelengths. However, there is evidence that green light is available for active plant growth, yet this phenomenon is wavelength- and intensity-dependent (Kim et al., 2004a; Kim et al., 2005; Johkan et al., 2012). Green light influences plant morphology, including leaf growth, stomatal conductance, and early stem elongation (Folta, 2004; Kim et al., 2004a,b). Kim et al. (2004) first examined the effect of green light on plant growth and photomorphogenesis, later concluding that it impacted plant growth at low light intensity (~150 μmol·m−2·sec−1) (Kim et al., 2005). A low percentage (≤ 24%) of green light enhanced plant growth, whereas plant growth was inhibited under a higher percentage of green light (Kim et al., 2004a, 2005; Folta and Maruhnich, 2007; Lee et al., 2011; Liu et al., 2017). Lee et al. (2011)reported that lady’s slipper orchid grown under a combined LED lighting regime (8:1:1 ratio; 660 nm, 525 nm, and 450 nm) had at least 60% greater shoot dry mass when compared to blue or red LED emissions alone, or to a combination of red and blue lights at the same light intensity. Furthermore, green light exhibits better leaf tissue penetration ability (Brodersen and Vogelmann, 2010), resulting in better plant canopy penetration than either red or blue light (Klein, 1992). The issue with green light is that it exerts an antagonistic effect on other blue light-induced responses, including stomatal closure (Frechilla et al., 2000) or anthocyanin accumulation (Zhang and Folta, 2012). In cannabis plants, THC levels are negatively affected by the presence of green light (Mahlberg and Hemphill, 1983; Magagnini et al., 2018).
Always down for a good read! It’s what I do when smoking doesn’t do the trick. It’s hard to come home when the house is putting it down and be quiet. Especially w 3 dogs So I come to my new grow space and check on y’all! waiting on a couple unanticipated parts and I should be able to fire this system up. Decided to go ahead and do the submersible pump for now and if it’s the way I wanna keep it I’ll run pvc next. Ps a buddy told me he uses a submersible chiller in his reservoir. I’ll get more info ps it’s gonna be cool to growing w/o a tent again!
A chiller would be interesting! Likely not needed unless your temps are warm in the surrounding environment. I’m all ears if you get more info. Very excited for you, really. I love the difference it makes. Little work on the front and back end but worth it. Would love to do all pvc but difficult for sure with submersible.
Smoking isn’t doing the trick for me today. So reading articles it is. Flower and dabbing most of the day, never really “got there.” Time flew but nothing else. Off day I suppose. Or tolerance.
I’ll be reading a bit more! Unless I’m reading the spectrum charts wrong learning ever day! looks like some of the big players are using a portion of Emerald green for better penetration and possible helps w preventing fungi etc. I know Mammoth is using it and I believe I also asked HLG about this as well a week ago but we disgusted allot! New technology is crazy fast!
Man I need to read more. Just checked mammoth, the studies they based their research off of was from 2000-2015. I didn’t see that green by HLG. Wait, I mean I’ve seen the evo diodes. “Mint.” Ughh I don’t like conflicting info. LOL
Yeah Mammoth lighting is doing a lot of experimenting and playing with the green lighting they’ve got a lot of research on it they’ve got some sweet lights with the green diodes in them now I believe Mammoth is the only ones playing with green
Considering doing that with BSC. Took a couple dabs of it last night. The terpenes were interesting. Inhale wasn’t bad but it had a gross aftertaste. The effects were very desirable tho. Strong indica. Prefect for my graceful self who lost their balance while standing on a counter and ended up falling backwards and hitting my back on the counter behind me. It definitely helped ease the pain enough to fall asleep. Today I’m gonna try out the Alien and see how that does. It’s been a long time since i smoked it but it has some nice minty terpenes that im hoping is still there.
Hey now! Don’t be giving @low ideas! cough Levo cough I think 1 press is enough lol
I almost grabbed the 8 bar from Mammoth. But my 260 xl’s have been amazing so I opted for the Diablo x which reminds me I have not received an email w a shipping time or anything. I believe 2-3 week lead time should be hearing something soon!
Customer sevice has been helpful for me since ive been an hlg customer. I emailed about my diablo flickering and they were quick to respond and gave me a troubleshooting method to determine if it was the dimmer or driver. Once i figured out it was the dimmer, they just asked for a copy of my proof of purchase on the light to varify the date. Once they saw it was still under warranty, i had a tracking number for a new dimmer within an hour. Cant beat that!
I wish they worked for me Brother, I’ve tried these and edibles but nada, zero buzz. I make them for friends and family. I have a TCheck for testing dry herb and use kief when I want higher mg per cap. @Newt hooked me up with this site
Thank you @Low thats some very useful information I might try incorporating that into one and see what happens brudda! Also y’all are killing it but you already know that!
Ayyye there are a few growers around here like JJ that use UVB. Just research research research before implementing. Tactics and schedules all the ins and outs. UVB shouldn’t be taken LIGHTly Thanks for the kind words!!
I LMAO at this
Thank you all for sharing valuable info and experiences!
As you know I’m vertically challenged. Was trying to get these abominations out of the cabinet above the fridge. I’m lucky I didn’t hit my head. I was at our old house by myself grabbing our Christmas decorations. I quickly threw the elves up there last year with the intention of putting them in storage and I never did. I guess that’s what procrastination gets yea.
