I’m definitely interested in doing this for the next time. I’m already 30-45 days into a grow but this sounds fun for next time @garrigan62!
In the mean time I’ll be watching the competition brew between @cyberblast and @Alton66 ![]()

Good morning!!
Yeah, I have six plants at four and five days old.
I’m currently working on limiting the stretch.
I’m excited about the contest.![]()
Are we going to start a new thread for it?![]()
Lucky for me I was on-line when I saw this thread, Cause I had been putting this very same thing togetter in the wings. For Latewoods ok.
I’em hopping to get started after New Year’s Eve

@garrigan62 definitely keep me in mind I’ll have to decide on a strain a new order may be in my future lol
I think it would be so cool
bro and glad you saw it as well
Felling better I hope ![]()
You are absolutely correct, bigger pot changes things quite a bit. Doing a small portion type if challenge definitely isn’t conducive for someone that is limited on seed availability. It’s more of a limiting factor to test ones knowledge and understanding of the growing process. Like you said, it will definitely take some planning and strategy to be successful.
I think using a 1 gallon pot will make a little more appealing to most, so it’s a good decision.
Feeling much better Thank you.
Both Doctor’s gave me the " BETTER HEALING THAN THEY THOUGHT " Award lol
And YES when your ready i’ll add you to the list
Will
Nice
and nice
@garrigan62
Good news brother ![]()
@dbrn32 definitely have a plan for this. I got my hands on some burlap sacks, and plane on makeing a 16 oz smart cup. Just for this.
Sweet! Pretty interested I’m how that turns out. Strategically, I’m not sure if getting extra air to the roots will be a big deal or not. They will be more healthy for sure, but you also run the risk of them growing too quickly.
I think if you start them in like a 2-3 oz cup" then transplant to like an 8oz, and then to whatever you’re going to finish in will be pretty solid. The idea would be to get the roots to stall at each stage before getting them to final home. After that, I would probably adjust nutrient line some. Being sure to limit or eliminate any root enhancers, and adding an enzyme to break down root matter.
I’m not sure how it would play out, but that would be my plan. I think if you coupled that with a fast flowering strain on a short veg time, and kept light levels relatively low until the last 4-5 weeks of flowering you’d be pretty good. But we’re also going the complete opposite route than we usually grow, so who knows. I’m just guessing, based off past experiences.
That’s a good plan. But the biggest question for me is when will @garrigan62 start the thread. I’m ready to see how this experience will turn out.
In his reply to me @Wishingilivedina420state he said he was hoping to get something going for the new year post Number 45
I missed that thanks @Countryboyjvd1971 . That gives me more time to start more seeds. 5 entry’s 5 different strains. I already know what I’m going with.
Woohoo @Wishingilivedina420state
I can’t wait to see what people enter ![]()
Should be fun if approved ![]()
The different ways this can be done and add the one gallon pot is gonna make it so much more interesting, and easier for everyone. We should do a practice run just to iron out the kinks. I bet we get the thread to 10,000 faster then ever.lol
Start it up… “cannabis cup trial run” lol @Wishingilivedina420state
My wife isn’t having it…yet! I have some time to work on her ![]()
@garrigan62 I am thinking will continue this thread for me and @Alton66 and our grow contest rather than start a new one. And would you tag us both when you get things set up for the other one. By then I should be able to manage getting the 1 gal softpots and have one setup to go. I do have extra seeds from ILGM that I can use in a pot rather than having to worry about a male coming out as could happen with these I have started here. So anyway, make sure you tag us and I hope that ILGM approves a contest grow for ILGM. THAT could be fun. So you can add me to the list of contestants.
@cyberblast I did an experiment 2 years running with those type pots. They will stunt root growth. I started all seeds the same time and put 3 beans in soil filled clay pots and 3 beans in soil filled peat pots. After 2 weeks I took them and repotted to larger pots. I left the peat pot ones in the peat pots and just transplanted the clay pot ones to bigger pots the same size as the others. Root tips were barely visible with peat pots. Roots in clay pots were wrapped around the inside of the pots. 3 weeks later i was ready for transplant outdoors. The 3 peat pot plants were a little smaller but not by much. All were healthy and looked great. When i took the peat pots out of their clay pots there were a few roots around the inside of the pots. When i took the clay pot plants out to transplant the roots were completely covering the inside of the pots…skip to after harvest. Peat pot plants were visibly smaller and not as many buds. When i pulled the rootballs for inspection, i was very surprised to see that only a few roots made the trip thru the pot. The rootball was half the size of the ones planted in clay pots from seed.
I have used these until ready to go into soil. I then unwrap the sides of the peat pots so the side roots can stretch out. I will leave the bottom of that pot if the roots have broken through. Could be a tap root, so dont want to break it off. But opening the sides removes the chance of the roots wrapping around it when it dries. Oh, yea…I know the problems with these peat pots. But they do make good starters if you remember to open up the sides.
