Grow Technique - LST, Topping, Defoliation, ScroG
Grow notes for the week - My approach to scrogging is a lot different then what I have seen on youtube and other media sites. I decided to grow her into the net (horizontal trellis) as you would a Jasmine tree or any other creeping plant. This I believe to be the true way to do a scrog, rather than just grow her out to a bush and then drop the net on and weave the limbs through. You get a better idea of how your plant grows, and how fast she grows just by spending more time with her.
Dosage has been increased and I still do not see any signs of tip burning and I’m almost at the manufacturers dosage recommendations for this nutrient. I use bluelab ph and tds meters for checking levels and I feel comfortable at 1,000 ppms for this plant in veg so this will be the dosage strength until flower (I dose once a week with recharge and the ppms goto 1110 on those fertigation days). I have added CalMag to the dosage, I noticed purple stems (could be a trait of this strain or a deficiency) and decided to error on the side of safety and see if this would help with the new growth, even the the manufacturer said not too. I have noticed (writing this during week 10 currently) that the addition of CalMag has worked as intended and the majority of the purple stems has dissipated a lot.
As the plant has been growing the humidity has been steadily increasing because of the vegetative growth and my current humidifier (I believe it is a two pint dehu) just can’t hack it, I replaced it with a infomia 30 pint version and this what I needed from the beginning, those of you wondering what size to get, start with a 30 pint and go up from there if you are in a tent. This dehu immediately makes the humidity drop within seconds (3x3x7 tent) and it provides enough heat to the point a heater is not needed in my case.
I’m going to estimate that veg will continue for a few more weeks until the net is filled. Thanks for stopping by!

Grow notes for the week - 30 pint dehu is working great, she is on cruise control till the flip to flower. Still doing defoliation once a week with lst. Flipping to flower should be close to the end of week 10.

Looking great dude she’s filling out that screen nicely.

Grow notes for the week - I’m glad that I am using silicate with this grow, the amount of bending and stressing I’m doing to her without silicate I would have broken many branches. Highly recommend silicate for strong branches. She’s starting to take her own shape and all I’m doing at this point is fertigating, watering, fertigating, watering, fertigating, watering, and flushing (w/recharge and mammoth p pH’d 5.9) to a runoff of 400 ppm. Once a week is a major defoliation and throughout the week I just make sure big fan leaves don’t cover bud sites. She’s filling out the net a lot more and I’m counting down the days till 12/12. The show is about to start!

Thanks @Dbpooper, as the weeks grew (no pun intended) it became increasingly difficult to keep scrogging her main branches while having the shoots grow above the canopy height. You kind of get to that moment where you just have to flip it and I’m glad I did sooner than later. She’s now in week 1 of flower and getting more impressive everyday!
ScroG is a cool technique, but very labor intensive. I would have to say the most difficult of any type of training I’ve done yet. I’ve seen a lot of growers just throw the trellis on after she has grown a bit, but I like to grow her through the trellis.
I’m going to grow another Cherry Pie and top at the fifth node and grow her like a bush to compare indoor yields using the same nutrient line.

Sounds like a solid plan to me. I have yet to run a scrog, was planning on doing one with this wedding cake grow but didn’t have the time to commit. In may run one in the near future though.
It’s good to try it, if not just for the understanding of how much you can learn about bending branches and LST in general.

I did a major lst and topping x2 on my first indoor grow it was fun and not too much added veg time!
Not too shabby of a canopy

Yeah looks nice man! I love growing autos like that, they have this cool claw looking shape to them.

For sure, the only reason I haven’t touched the wedding cake is I just haven’t had the time and I wanna see if making a staggered harvest and letting the lowers go further will fit my grow style better than longer vegging with training as too sace my personal time as well. Wanna try to get more perpetual than having large Harvests once or twice a year.

Grow notes for the week - This is the last week of veg, the remaining room in the net will be utilized when she starts her stretch in flower. The nutrient line FloraMax has been amazing, they are spot on with the dosage levels unlike other companies. Their A&B dosage levels per gal is 11ml and I’m at 9ml without any signs what so ever of a deficiency or burn. They are one of the more expensive nutrient lines at $25+ per bottle (1gt) in their lineup, but the results speak for themselves. I would say that you can grow two photos with a fresh line of their nutes before having to replace certain bottles like A&B.
Temps for veg have stayed in the mid 70’s the entire grow with RH between 60-70% targeting a 1.1 vpd. HLG 550r is the perfect size for a 3x3 grow space imop, able to be turned down for the 3x3 and you have the benefit of moving into a 5x5 using the same light so no upgrade is needed, not to mention it is just a badass light!

Grow notes for the week - Did major defoliation to her just before the flip with a little more lst. Light schedule is from 5pm to 5am to keep the temps steady at night and utilizing the day to keep cooler temps. Cherry pie is one of those strains that like the colder climate which makes it ideal for a winter grow in my area. New nutrients from FloraMax have been added to help production in the flower period, and since the dosage is increasing a bit more I will be adding fulvic acid to help maximize nutrient uptake.
Schedule for fertigation is as follows - fertigation, watering, fertigation, watering, fertigation, watering, flush to a runoff of 550 ppms (I don’t waste time with a % of water). Fertigation is full dosage at 1250 ppms @ 5.8 - 6.0pH, watering is 290 ppms with fulvic acid at 5 ml @ 5.8 - 6.0 pH, and flushing is 350 ppms with fulvic acid and recharge @ 5.8 - 6.0 pH.
During watering I will be doing some minor defoliation to make sure bud sites are not covered and that is about it. This strain is supposed to conclude in about nine weeks of flower, so at this point I should be on cruise control…finally! Thanks for stopping by

Thanks! She has been a great grow so far with zero issues, hungry little girl for sure!

Yeah and still filling it up today (almost the end of week two). Can’t say enough about ILGM genetics, she has been stressed pretty hard this run with zero issues. She can take a pretty good dosage of nutes too, I’ve been ramping up the P&K and still no tip burning, crazy.

what do u think of your xpulse system. also how much did u pick it up for…
I like it, they have been squashing the bugs and the device is a lot better then it was at release. Of all the grow monitors out there this one seems to work the best. I think I paid around $180 for it with a DGC coupon code.
