Can't tell if my autos are ready to harvest

Thats the same microscope I have

Beautiful trichomes you got there! How do you like the functionality of the microscope? Mine should be arriving this morning. What won me over was the ability to view results from your phone screen.

So I was able to use the microscope to take trichome pics. How much longer do ya’ll think this NL auto has until harvest judging by trichomes?

Do you have a picture of the plant those trichome pictures came from

Its getting close nice job on the trichome pictures. How long has she been flowering

Thank you, they’ve been flowering for 6 weeks going on 7 now. I’m still seeing a few empty trichomes but for the most part they look cloudy with maybe 10-20% amber trichomes. I’m going to check them daily but do you think by next weekend it’ll be show time?

That’s a lot of amber, you should at least take a cola off and sample it and not wait another week based on arbitrary timeframes…I’ve seen some narco autos harvested at <70 days seed-to-harvest before. Sometimes it is genetics, but if you don’t have experience with the strain, it can’t hurt to sample before you wait another week…just in case

You have some amber try focusing deep in a bud are you sure it’s not farther along in flower. Either way I’d wait a week and reevaluate. Edit I agree with @Mozzy take a sample

@Mozzy Awesome advice thanks, what would be the best way to sample a bud? Should I pull a bud then dry and cure like normal or is there a faster way to do it? I agree, I’m trying to follow arbitrary time frames but these look way ahead of where I thought they were growth wise so they may be ready to hervest.

@plumbdand thank you, I’ll try to take pics deeper into buds. I thought she started flower on sept. 15 so that would give her 7 almost 8 weeks of flower but I could be mistaken by a week or 2.

Like @Mozzy said it could also be genetics. People are breeding cannabis nowadays to flower faster. If I’m gonna sample I usually clip a small bud and trim it then I fluff the bud up to make it less dense. Then I put it in a paper bag or a cardboard box in a warm cupboard for a
a day or so. You can do it quicker but that’s how I do it.

@plumbdand Wow I didn’t know that! That’s amazing to know some of these are finished flowering around 70 days. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me lol. Thanks for the fast dry technique I’ll cut off a sample bud now. I read that alot of people who sample bud get the chlorophyl taste from not curing yet is this true in your experience?

Its definitely not gonna taste as good as it would if you had dried it properly and cured it, but thats not what the sample is for. If the buzz is mostly a head high.or makes you anxious or wears off real fast wait a week and take another sample.

Thanks for letting me know about the sample. So its more so to test the effects of the bud not taste, smell etc. Got it. Today I cut a few of the lower buds from each plant, trimmed them and put them in paper bags like you suggested. Would these buds be ready to test by tomorrow afternoon? Should I pack a bowl or roll a j?

Sure, you can just cut one off with clean snipers and hang/dry for a couple days or speed it up with some sort of “quick dry”…plenty of searchable methods.

It should be at least vape/smokable within a couple days depending on RH, may or may not taste ideal yet but the effects should be there for how mature it is and help you gauge chopping.

edit…too high and missed the prior good replies. Also, would not gauge by lowers, if you don’t want overdone tops test one…you can always take all the tops and leave lowers for another week if they’re done and the lowers aren’t…very common indoors too, fwiw.

If its not ready break it up into tiny pieces and let it sit out for a few hours. I like joints but a one hitter pipe will work sooner. Weed thats not dry wont burn very good in a joint

@Mozzy thanks so much for this great advice! I’ll cut a few samples from the tops and hang dry them a few days. I’m wanting to experiment with different methods of drying, curing etc so I can find what method works best for me so I really appreciate all the great advice received on this forum. :grinning:

@plumbdand I’ll definitely break it up if its still not ready. I have plenty of papers but I’ll have to take a trip to the smoke shop for a pipe or perhaps this is the perfect time for a homemade potato pipe? :potato:  thanks for all the great advice!
