Hi everyone, I recently harvested this plant yesterday and noticed a lot of calyx. . I’m familiar with them at the base of buds, but when opening a few of the buds it just looks like calyx clusters almost and no solid buds except at the very top of the buds. I’ve been worried it’s some strange type of hermie but they all look like calyx… trichome covered… It almost looks like they never came together to form a solid bud.
This grow was almost issue free, no big temperature or humidity swings, Idk? I will get some better pictures but figured someone has run into this at some point.

Just pluck one off and open it up… if there’s a seed inside you have your answer

Thank you, no seeds. I just don’t understand why they didn’t form into solid buds? I guess trimming will be a blast lol

What’s your setup? Grow specs and lighting. And where are the seeds from?

Seeds: FastBuds , Apple Strudel strain
This is a CC and Happy Frog soil mix. 70% CC
Advanced Nutrients: Veg and Flowering, PH Perfect.
Lighting: Hyphotonflux HPF4000, 480w LED Full Spectrum
Like I mentioned this was pretty much an issue free grow. The only major thing was breaking a good size branch when repositioning, this happened in 1st week of flower. I attempted to repair with a splint and electrical tape but this failed.
If you can’t blame your grow for this, then what’s left?…….genetics?
Maybe that seed company sucks? Not sure, but I would take those lovely little balls of goodness and smoke ‘em first!
Then find a different strain and try again 
Edit: and honestly I’ve seen many strains that don’t do that and some that do….my guess is phenotype or strictly strain related

Thank you, I am by no means an expert at this but what’s hard about this grow was I felt everything went right. . I’ve had deficiencies, overwatering issues, equipment failure, etc, and this didn’t happen so I’m guessing it was this particular plant. I have another one, same strain and company that is ok so IDK? I do appreciate everyone’s input and will be trying ILGM seeds next. And yes, will be smoking the viable buds and making edibles or something out of the individual calyx formations. lol

I would be inclined to attribute the bud structure (at least somewhat) to be related to genetics

There is nothing wrong with the flower pix you posted. Those aren’t seed pods and the plant didnt hermie. It just looks like a larfy strain.

I have the same same strain growing and have some photos. Mine isn’t doing this and it also shot up to 7.5 feet tall.
I had this happen to a do-si-do for absolutely no reason. I think autos have unstable genetics. Most of the time it’s fine but sometimes you’ll run into something weird. I know i have. With photoperiods though, never a surprise as what I get.
It’s still early but I don’t see anything off for mine.

Thanks everyone, I think genetics just was weird with this auto. I was having a hard time explaining exactly what I meant but found a picture of a strain for sale online that looks like what my plant did. The buds just looks like groups of small individual calyx all the way through, just never seen that before.
I think you are correct, the 2nd plant of Apple Strudel has a completely normal bud structure, I left a reply with a pic that looks like what my 1st one did. No where near the size of yours, wow! I can tell you even with the strange formation, the effects are absolutely wonderful, and the aroma is so unique. You’re going to be a happy man with that monster. lol

I am having similar bud structure issues and I attribute it to genetics. This is a BB Cupcake and nothing but popcorn. Smells like the milk leftover from a bowl of Boo-berry cereal. I hope it tastes as good and hits hard since it is only popcorn.
She was huge at the end of veg

This looks like a different issue… My buds appeared large, it just didn’t form correctly. These look like you just have small buds… I think you will be fine… The buds on mine were not pretty to look at but the effects were still top notch and the aroma right there with it.
