Building a grow room

You don’t need to link stuff from timber or rapid led anyway. I’m familiar with them.

Do to the size of your room, I would look more at the straight rows of cobs. You figure you can start with a couple of them and as you get more you can tighten them up some.

Very nice set up

So far $350, but I have to buy aluminum for the frame. I have a 6’ piece of 4" wide by 1/4 thick aluminum that I’m thinking of making the frame out of with 1’ pieces linking the heatsinks together. I’ll need another 6’ piece and that’s $17. I’m hoping that doing that will make my COBs not need active cooling like my Frankenstein driverless COBs test light does

These 110v driverless COBs that I was hoping would work good ended up being a monster heat generator. @dbrn32 pretty much told me months ago they were a waste of time. Anyway I don’t have to buy any heatsinks either way. So the bottom line is it’s going to be about $400 for 400 watts for me because I’ll have the heatsinks to build two lights. You’ll have to buy those at $15-$20 each. I don’t think you have to use any cooling with a 50 watt cob if you buy the pin type.

I see the moderators are being nice. Can’t use anything but ILGM approved links like Amazon and others. Sorry just being a smartass. I appreciate ILGM for the forum and the grow Bible. Other than LED lights, it pretty much tells you anything you need to know to grow badass weed @Growit

I’m not sure if waste of time is accurate, but you sure did put a lot of work into what you got out of them. For the cost of them, it was probably worth trying.

I’d like to see them go active too, because running a bunch of fans is a pita. I’m just a little skeptical those sinks are big enough. Worth a shot though for sure. Just watch those temps closely.

Waste of time is accurate. You didn’t exactly put it in those words, but it was basically a waste. I really was hoping to make those suckers work though. Well let’s look at it this way, I have months of testing them under my belt so if anyone has any question about them on this forum you can point them to me. I’m not a light expert, but I know driverless COBs are not ready for growing. Not enough light and too much heat to be efficient. I should have known when I couldn’t get any specs on them.

I’m guessing you’re replying to me @1BigFella. If so, here’s my answer. Out of 10-14 plants I only get about 2 oz of dry each. My son and nephew get about half of that. They were both opiate addicted until I told them that if they would quit, I’d give them all the free weed they wanted. As for myself, I learned that edibles are way better for pain relief and I’m in constant nagging pain. I use about an oz every 8 days. As a matter of fact, I’m barely going to make it until the Northern Lights autos will be ready in 2 weeks. The white and chronic widow fems won’t be ready until mid May.

Gotcha cool dude

My sympathies, skgrower. I vape for my MS symptoms, but I am fortunate not to have chronic pain. Just lack of balance (and injuries from recurrent falls), numb feet, difficulty sleeping, etc. Just a pinch at bedtime and I am in great shape. I’d like to get my disabled vet buddy on weed to cut down or eliminate his opiates but he’s afraid the VA will cut him off if he tests positive for cannabis.

“2 ounces each”: You definitely need some better light. I got about 7 ounces per plant under 400 watt HPS and also under sunlight. (Different plants.) Your yield is going to go way up with some decent COB lights.

No kidding on the lights. That’s why with all of you guys help, I’m going to build 800 watts of lights that will blow the cheap Chinese lights I’m using away. I bet then it will be more like 8 oz a plant. Your Vet friend is right. If you test positive for any “street drugs”, you will be cut off cold from the opiates for at least 2 months and have to pass a urinalysis every week until then. So it’s more like 3 months because you have to be clean for 60 days and cannabis takes about a month to get out of your fat. I know this because my VA doctor told me this and I told her I didn’t want their opiates and I will use marijuana for my pain. She said she wished that she could prescribe it to me but the feds say absolutely not. I think they are about to de-schedule it soon. I hope so for others sake. I think I’ll just stick to my stuff. It’s better than dispensary pot.

I been shopping around
I have questions on drivers
So thinking of Vero29 3500 k 80cri
I guess the vero is solderless and a lil less on cost too compared to the cxb3590
So the driver question
Do i need one for each bulb and if so what size and brand driver should I be lookin for
Seems the meanwell brand is popular at least I am seeing a lot of em in the diy kits

Thinkin of like five five bulb fixtures
Run em on 5’ long substrate inline and do rows as you suggested

Depending on lenses I may be able to do 4 cobs per fixture

What ya guys think @1BigFella
@dbrn32
@Covertgrower
@BIGE
@OldSkunk

@Growit vero 29’s are great. 3500k depends if your vegging or intend to flower with them. I haven’t checked the kingbrite kit, but anything from them, I wouldn’t say is efficient. Unless they’re selling citizens COB’s.
