Thanks for the encouragement, I think I’ll top at least two of my current six. Got two different strains in there.

Sorry been busy.
I have not experienced it but. This is what I read on it. To the question why is my bottom watered soil not absorbing? So the short anwer is yes.

Hydrophobic soil occurs when a waxy residue builds up on the soil particles resulting in it repelling water rather than absorbing it. It is most common in sandy soils, dried out potting mix and soils containing unrotted organic matter. You can identify hydrophobic soil by watering it.

Cool man! Thanks for the tip

My 2 gallon pots bottom-watered took up aprox 1 liter.
I’ll post any learnings/data on here about the topic.

HLG and spend double your need, for growing into.
Cant believe the difference. Else, HPS/MH grow but cost for electricity.
I can run my HLGs Sept to June w/o AirConditioning.
Just waiting for cool temps to blast off. 23 days into flip/flower.
My ladies look better with bottom watering, maybe.
I have tried the Auto-Self Wicking drip pans, and, and they help prevent over-watering,
as I am prone to do.

run it on full and enjoy, both veg & bloom switches, if you can handle temps.
LUX/PAR/PPFD/ readings?

I am at 60,000 with the HLG350 at #6 (230watts)

My multimeter, lux setting, max’s out at 40,000. 1.5’ away center if I remember right I’ll do a wider check now. Ok 20" below blurple maxs out past 40,000. 17000 off to the side. 27000 off to the side with aux light

My android phone maxed out at 33Klux, indoors or out.

My UT383BT light meter maxes outdoors at 100K lux.
My HLG350 at pos 5 (200watts) does 45K. Pos 6 and 20 inches above 60K,
Same as my Vipar Spectra R1200@520watts (juice sucking heater).
HLG has conversion calculators for LUX to whatever or board output/distance…etc.
All good?
With bottom watering, I spill less.

It will wick.up the water til the whole medium is wet all the same. If in soil u really don’t wanna have it sitting in water to wick up too much as u want air to the roots also and constant water in the tray will mean constant water around the roots which means no air to those roots which smothers them. Otherwise fill my ppa ts til runoff let a few 3 or 4 cups run out suck trays dry and then add half a trays worth of feed into them and let the plants drink that thru the day. Seems to work great so far for me. Went got autopots just to still top feed still I did however use them one grow the right way. Lol. Jacked up did 3 photos and 1 auto on the pots. Ot thinking so I just went with top feed this run.

So far so good I did a bit of back and forth too, will return to doing it right. I think big soil boxes I will grow organic and small containers I will grow with nutes and bottom watering. After a soil dump I notice youre right on @Mark0427 the whole medium was good and wet
