Bonjoyle's never-ending grow journal

I started in coco and went to soil once. I figured coco sort of had the start advantage and I’d not have to feed for a while. The different pH’s and absorption/drainage rates was like roller skating on a gravel road.

I don’t have a real solution on yours, but I do think they can survive if the main portion of the roots responsible for uptake can really grab and go in the coco. Work itself past the soil ya know? Do ½ strength feed with like a pint around the rim every 3 days or so. Not sure if they’ll bounce back quick enough for the growoff timeline.

This is the only thing I was concerned with. Here they are today or maybe yesterday.

It will be what it will be. I think 5-6 of them have a real chance to bounce back, just not on a schedule. I am doing what you mentioned above on the feeding. They are dry enough now that I can give them a 1/4 strength feed tonight.

The yellowing is probably pH imbalance from the soil and the coco. I really hope they pull through for you man. If not, i still have 6 I can send you 4 and maybe a couple other strains from the stash box. I just want to hold two for future grows. If I get 4 males from what’s going, I’m not going to be overly disappointed.

I got out and made a homemade gun and tattooed myself, and the wife, and friends… I still have them.

I think I am going to drop a bean and get this coco completely figured out. Stay tuned and I will let you know what I am dropping and start posting pics. I think it will be Godfather OG from ILGM. I have grown it several times now and love the ease at which they grew in soil.

Godfather OG dropped. 18 hours later she tapped. Another 18 hours later she said hi. With all of the NL’s in my small tent, I started her in the sprouter on the table next to my bed. I will figure out which NL’s may still be viable and keep them and get the new addition in the small tent. The 3 day old is bigger than my 6 week old NL’s. I hate for them to have not experienced life. Not get to go to the prom, never be kissed by a boy but it is what it is.
@Borderryan22 I presoaked my coco with cal mag. What are your feeding tips at this stage?

I was thinking mixing up 300 ppms of food and giving it to her each morning in about a cup of water. Thoughts?
I have read coco4canna website so have the basics/general idea down but thought I would ask your opinion. I use AN Micro Grow Bloom B52 and Voodoo with RO water with 0 ppms, so it will all be food each time I water.

Mix up your nutes to regular strength. I’m not familiar with AN, but for Jack’s, you have to mix calmag or silica first, then nutes. But I never mix less than full strength. I expand the coco with full strength and every feeding is mixed to 100% or greater.

A cup each day is waaaaaay too much to start. You can put a humidity dome over it, and give more like 20ml. Wait until she is established in the cup and is working on making some leaves before a thorough soak. You can mix a gallon, and, if your pH holds, could technically use that the first couple weeks.

Cool. Thank you. She will be in this when time…could i do as you said and soak this, it is 7 gallon. Or wait a few weeks? Baby is in dome with one surviving NL. 20 ml now or ??
Oh. And i am getting a cloth pot to complete the upgrades.

I wouldn’t go straight to 7 gallons. I would do go to a ½ gallon plastic if you have it. I let photos ride in the cups a little longer than necessarily and will go to a half gallon to get the roots really going.

But to your question, when I transplant to final homes, I feed around the edge of the bag until minimal runoff, then a decent ring around the transplant zone. Then just enough to wet the rest between. It could be a couple/few days before a thorough soak is needed.

For the dome? Looking at the pic above, I’d say she can wait. I like to take a big 50ml plunger and bottom feed about 10-15ml through the holes I cut in the bottom of the cups.

I meant to snap a pic before I came in to work and forgot. I will get this coco figured out but my GFOG is already showing signs of unhappy at 1 week old. New leaves, (She only has 2 true sets), are showing brown splotches.

As soon as I get home tonight, I will upload that pic for an assist.
Have a great day Brother!

@Borderryan22 pretty sure i am killing her. Followed your advice on the feeding. I feel like i am overwatering. Only 20 ml at lights on. Thoughts?

Are you using domes? I rarely do an actual feed in solo cups or in seedling stage. I may give them 10-20ml every couple/ days from the bottom during the first couple of weeks, but it takes a while before I do daily feedings. Sorry late on the response. The brown spots look like possible overwatering.

She was in a dome for the first week. I just removed it yesterday. Humidity without dome is solid 60% and 72 to 76 F. I will not water her for several dayz. Pot is heavy and i felt i was overwatering.
I am geared toward coco now so i will win the day. Just not sure which day.

Overwatering at the beginning is just as easy as soil. I’m having trouble with the opposite currently as the RH here went from 70 yesterday to 35 right now so my 1 gallon flowering auto almost dried out completely. It took me 10 minutes to feed her a half gallon without it just running right out.

Dude I hate that your having these hiccups though. Wait a couple days to feed. She’s still throwing those roots. With the higher humidity it shouldn’t dry out quickly and you can wait a little.

Copy that. Ill ping you when she is happy. Yeah the issues i am having repeatedly right now after nothing but improvements and successful grows is truly saddening.
Especially after no problem grows like this.

Man, I’m really sorry. I don’t know if I’ve misguided or misinformed with anything and I hope to heaven that I haven’t. You use different nutes, but that shouldn’t make really any difference schedule wise, being in coco. You mind if I tag a couple other coco growers? I believe they even have AN experience. I really feel awful here and that I may have steered something off track for you. If I have, I will gladly swap info through a mod here or IG if you have it and send a handful of different stuff I have

Only this last summer for a short spell did the same methods I’ve used for 3+ years totally fail. But it was right after a major hurricane and all of my stuff, seeds, equipment, supplies, sat in my house for a week in a half with no power. I was pretty sure heat and moisture got to everything. Couldn’t even get seeds to pop. Took a couple weeks off. Some other growers sent some beans and I dropped others I still had. All popped and it was my best grow. The 2 autos I have going now are old beans. I’m just baffled man.

No way Jose. You have only helped. I own my issues Big Brother. I appreciate your input. I nailed my process down with soil and it was always easy, simple. Now I just have to learn a new media and it will all be good.

@Borderryan22
So I decided to drop another bean since the GFOG is struggling. The last NL I had that I pulled from the tent and set on the floor for about a week I was going to use that soil. I never pulled the dead plant from the coco. Anyhoo, when I went to grab it and use it for the new bean, lo and behold I saw new growth. No light or water or anything. Thought she was dead. So 9 weeks after sprout she has decided to live and I put her back in the tent and gave her a cal mag misting. I will track her progress here but thought I would share. It really is hard to kill these girls.
