So this is my first time ever growing and I notice everyone’s plants are a lot taller than mine. I’m not complaining as they are at least continuing to grow.
As there’s very little stretching I have to assume the lights are enough (I did cheap out a bit on the lighting. But it should be OK as it’s on 24/7, the tops of the plants get 240ish par/ppfd. I have noticed light nutrient burn on the tips of the leaves but nothing too major.
All in all, I am still fairly pleased with how these ladies are turning out.
This one is Penelope my purple people eater, she is the one I’ve done major LST on and already has those white pistol hairs so she’s a few weeks from harvest.
And finally I have Maui, my Maui Waui that I didn’t think would grow as I darn need drowned her and made the majority of my LST mistakes on her for sure.
Welcome to the forum. Best advice I can give is get PH and PPM meters and learn to use them, and don’t scrimp on lights, they are the single most important factor in growing well and getting decent yields. Small light just won’t supply the energy they need . Best of luck, we’re always a tag away if you need help. Just type in @ and the username and they will be notified of your tag.
Tyty, I have both and they helped tremendously for germination and veg.
I have plans to upgrade my lights before the next germination as I have a feeling the blue in the blurple lights is keeping growth down and not an issue with the amount of light provided. Those 1ft leds are just supplemental lights for the lower growth.
The overhead light is one of those Amazon specials that advertises 1000w of power while only taking 100w which is why I am thinking I need to replace it. My grow space is roughly 3x3 so I thought this should do it…
Correct, that is a 100 watt light. They use numbers for advertising that mislead you. Here is a good light that I currently use and it’s been very good to me.
Welcome to the neighborhood. You will get excelent information here. Do listn to the advice on the light. The light is the difference between a good harvest and a great one. I needed to listen to it better. I have 3 lights and really wish I had just purhased the best first. I still want a better light. Anyway, happyt growing and have a great day.
Dang Growdoc I wish you’d posted this light a few months ago:joy: I’ve never heard of the brand but the specs look great and you can’t beat that price compared to the more popular grow lights
I upgraded a while back I and currently in a love hate relationship with the light. I may put up a review on it after a few more grows but right now it’s complicated
Yes, thanks for the light recommendation! I would have replies sooner but the day 1 reply limit got me lol..
Unfortunately that light is about 10 inches too big for my grow… so I ended up with this that is barely small enough to fit in my grow shower lmao.
This is my current setup and it’s homebrew AF… I took the bathroom attached to my bedroom that had the plumbing disconnected for years, did about 10 passes over every surface with bleach so its actually a nice 3x3ish shower that I feel converted quite nicely into a grow tent. All my bud is for personal use and I plan to wash my buds before trim just to be safe, there’s no mold anywhere yet but I’m always on the look out just to be safe as I know a shower isn’t the most sanitary place to grow…
I did end up ordering this light as I’ve only got about 29 square inches to play around with…
Should do me well enough for the space. I’m mostly doing this run as a trial and error run as I’ve learned so much just from these plants… I now know that I do not want to mist my plants unless absolutely necessary as I see a lot of light burn and some nute burn from my learning of the autopot system. All of those issues are faster to learn as I use liquid nutes so it’s easier to course correct, however lights take a bit more time to learn as it just takes longer for light to be a more noticeable issue.
Again, thanks for all the support guys, I love it here!
Left front is Purple People Eater, back left is Maui Waui, back right is Alaskan Bannanaberry, and front right is my baby that I started after I saw the first white bud hairs, GG-48… Penelope, Maui, Annie (the Alaskan Bananabullworm) and baby Gigi… May they find their nights bright and their days brighter!
Figured I would post an update here for those who want to learn what I’ve learned.
The scope of this list is specifically for my autopot setup with autoflowers and 100% coco with no mixers.
Grow similar strains if growing multiple plants. I have 3 budding plants now however getting the nutrients right for each individual plant is an absolute nightmare. Stick to within 20% of your middle strain (indica/sativa).
Lights, airflow, and nutes are your holy trinity, nail those and you will at least make it to harvest.
Defoliate before you see those white hairs pop out, if you see those hairs, wait until you get a sea of white hairs, take off only what is in the way and what is damaged, I’ve kept mine quite bushy as my humidity has blessed me.
Tieing onto number 1 and 2, learn what your leaves are telling you. Droopy likely means overwatered, lack of airflow, or humidity imbalance. Spotting is a nutrient burn issue, pale colors tend to indicate a lack of nutrients, and I am still learning all the weird combinations of leaf indicators.
Keep your ph around a 6 and you are golden, raise it slightly in bloom to a 6.5ish but try not to go above that.
I am quite proud of what I’ve done so far and hope to use what I have learned to grow some Bruce Banner next month.
Here are my babies who are now big and bushy. Bottom left is Penelope, the purple people eater (indica dominant), I am expecting 1.5-2.5oz from her dry. Top left is Maui (sativa dominant), she is growing into what I can only hope is my half to a full pound fatty. Top right is Anni, a near 50/50 hybrid Alaskan bananaberry, I’m expecting a bit more than Penelope around 2-3oz from her. The bottom right is GiGi (I believe she is a 60/40 sativa), GG-48 strain, she is the redheaded stepchild planted after the others by about a month after the others and she has been abused by nutes but surprisingly resilient taking them like a champ and growing up beautifully, although her leaves are always swelled up she is going to be huge.
And finally if it will let me put it here I have a vid of Penelope and her tricomes, still a full week until harvest at minimum but I’m thinking she may need 2 more weeks with no amber in sight… well no vid but I’ll screenshot the good images. She still has quite a few white hairs so I also have to wait for her to bulk up more as well.
So I noticed a decent out of salt deposits in my rez and it was low enough that I decided to do a little flush with pure h2o, after adding 5gal of water to my rez the ppm is at 780ish, as you can tell one of my plants (Maui, the yellowest one) has been taking on way too much in the nutes department. The lower leaves are still very green and lush with a few pure yellow ones that it decided to sacrifice. She just started flower so I have plenty of time for her to “recover”.
Those look beautiful even with the one with nute burn. I’d say it’ll be ok, i had that bad cola burn that’s turned up ok.
Should have time for her to turn around but I’m newer than you for indoor. lol
