After a decade of using soil and growing traditionally, on my next grow I’m switching over to autopots.

Ive noticed coco seems to be the overwhelming choice for autopots users. However I can’t help but notice no one seems to use Pro mix?

I grew in Pro mix once, and did ok. But for some reason went back to soil.

Am I missing something, or is Pro mix not very compatible with the autopot system?

Promix and 50 percent perlite is recommended by Autopot USA on the website along side coco. I’ve begin Promix forever, but tried coco this grow, pretty impressive so far, I just flipped them this past weekend.

I’ve ran ProMix HP twice to try it out, very good results but I can get coco cheaper so I stuck with that. I’m pretty sure @Myfriendis410 runs ProMix and kills it 🤟

I prefer it over coco but the price trumps that. Coco/perlite is way cheaper.

Regarding your autopots, are you using plastic or fabric pots? Air domes?

Yes sir, photos in coco, first time. Usually run Promix and do well with it. I get Promix for $38 a 60 lb bale from a greenhouse near me, comes out about same as coco for me, but I realize most can’t get it for that….

I use both plastic and fabric….fabric set ups are the way to go IMO. I tried the air domes 4 years ago but honestly didn’t see any difference. The fabric pot set up allows a 3 or 5 gallon pot for the auto tray, I use 3 gallon fabric bags with pretty good results 🤟

I was looking at the fabric bags, are they autopot specific or will any grow bags work. I’m looking at the fabric ones to prune roots.

Winner winner Brother and why I prefer them. Any 3 or 5 gallon bag will work. I get some pretty large plants with the 3 gallon bags and managing 2 plants per 2 x 4 tent can get challenging sometimes compared to my 2 and 4 gallon plastic pot set ups 🤟

Interesting replies. Thanks.

I guess I have a lot of research to do before I jump in with both feet. I’ve been growing in fabric for years, both weed and tomatoes, and I like it.

But I been watching that autopotomous guy on UT, and he gets amazing results from 4 gallon plastic. I have homework to do. Sometimes homework is fun.

I get best results with the plastic pots and air domes. However, I prefer fabric pots which I’m currently running. Basically because I’m lazy.

😆😆 same here and works with my work schedule. The smaller 2 gallon plastic pots work really well when I run a SOG with clones and an early light flip. Hats off to ya, you grow some monsters 💪💪🤟

Glad to know, that’s makes my mind up to go with fabric, easy enough to replace one if something happens to it too. Damnit, now I gotta buy Autopots AND the new Szhlux 1060 watter they just dropped. I’ve spoken to them about better dimmer knobs and looks like they were listening, the new model has dimmer switches that increase by 10% per click 10-100 , this will be much easier to adjust ppfd then older model’s which were 0-40-100, only three settings. Much improved and they have adjustable UV and IR settings too now. I have high hopes for this company, their lights haven’t disappointed me yet.

I use ProMix in plastic autopots with air bases and air domes. Either the HP or BX bales, depending what’s in stock. I don’t use additional perlite except an inch in the bottom covering the air bases. I also wrap the air domes in landscape fabric so things don’t get clogged.
I found an incredible difference with the air pumped thru the roots, way faster growth, but also higher humidity as you are pushing moist air up and out into the tent. It adds maybe 10% higher rH than without.

Thank you for the reply.

But something I don’t understand. You said that inspite of getting great results with plastic, you “prefer fabric because you’re lazy”.

What make plastic more work? It is because a plastic pot requires an air dome, and a fabric doesn’t?

I’m not trying to nitpick, I’m just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I order the system.

You have to prepare the different pots to receive plants: plastic pots get the root stop, a 2" layer of hydroton, followed by the medium. In addition, the hydroton supports an air dome in the clay layer. It’s just a PITA for me to do. Fabric pots: 2" layer of hydroton followed by the media. No air dome. They are also 3 gallon so quite a bit lighter.

While we’re on the subject.

I just noticed Fox Farm has a product called Cultivation Nation. A 70/30 mix of pre buffered coco and perlite.

Sounds like a strong possibility. Anyone use it?

I use it in auto pots and add perlite to make it 60 coco/ 40 perlite. Works pretty well for me.
