It takes a long time to feel ready again. I waited a year to get my Willow dog after my best friend gus became an angel. There are so many unwanted dogs thrown away I felt it was the best way I could honor gus, by finding another needy soul. I do not regret ever getting another dog. She reminds me of my gus angel every day; as in I reflect upon him more by having her with me now. Good luck on finding a way to live with your loss. You are right about NEVER getting over it. But you can find joy again by opening your heart to another thrown away dog. Those dogs will love you forever because they know how life was being tossed aside and forgotten. I feel for you and implore you to open your heart to another dog. You will feel joy again, and reflect/interspect your memories of Riley from a whole new perspective. Life is too short, for you and another pup. Get living, and save another helpless soul of a dog. Your soul we feel better because of it, and when Riley looks down from doggy heaven, there will be some tail waggin.
